Re: How many freebees to get word of mouth going?

Real Estate agents are great since many of them have nice cars and they're trying to impress their clients.

Exactly!!!

If I give the head guy half off on his Lambo, but he brings me 5-6 other cars that equal 2 mil, why not?? Yes, he can afford it, but you have to get your foot in the door first.

Re: How many freebees to get word of mouth going?

As said already NO FREEBIES!!!!

I just started up my own shop, been open 1 yr this past Aug. Word of mouth was hard to spread at first so I gave a couple of free details and bent over backwards for some people with pick ups/deliveries, extra work, etc. Nothing came back my way.

The people that talked about me the most were my paying customers. People who feel like they have gotten more than what they paid talk a lot, those who just got a free detail don't know the worth of it. How are they supposed to talk about your company? All they can tell people is "He did a great job, but I don't know how much he charges cause I got it for free." The more research a customer has to do, the less likely they will do it.

I will add that I have traded free details to bank heads, real estate managers, etc. for dropping a stack of cards and a pricing flyer in thier office. It hasn't been a huge return business wise for me, but I usually get 1-2 appointments per office. More importantly I get my name out there to the people I want to reach, not those looking for a $10 wash/wax like previously stated.
