Multiple Cars

had an email today from a prospective customer wanting 5 cars looking after.Theres 3 daily drivers and 2 exotics in his own personnel fleet. As i have only done repeat one offs at the moment this is new territory. I have a basic idea but dont want to pitch in too deep but also not to appear cheap!. All suggestions / advice welcome.
Cheers from accross the water, John.

Re: Multiple Cars

So what do you normally charge and exactly what is he wanting done with the cars?? just regular washings or paint correction first then regular washings?

I would start by offering paint corrections on the exotics and do regular washings for the rest and bi monthly waxings....

What are your current pricings for a full correction? and a wash?

If he's not sure then with 5 cars you might give 5% discount with a yearly contract or whatever and show him the savings and such to try to seal the deal...

Just some thoughts,
Josh

Re: Multiple Cars

Hell if you are just doing routine washes I wouldn't give a price cut on any. If you are doing paint correction on every single car than I would do a price cut on the last 2 or 3. I have a client with 7 cars I do every 2 weeks, it is just washing and waxing though and they dont even ask what I'm there to do. They just tell me the cars are there hand me the keys and pay at the end.

Re: Multiple Cars

Gents,
You echo my thoughts, have emailed him and asked if he is happy with present condition of cars, if not we need to get cars to a std hes happy with, be it paintwork correction etc.
Have suggested a full detail/valet every 2 months, filling in with weekly washes + carnauba spritz+vac. Thanks for your thoughts, very helpfull.

Re: Multiple Cars

Damn. My standard discount is 10%. I guess it's time to lower it.

Re: Multiple Cars

Whenever I deal with a maintenance client with multiple cars I let them know that to maintain a vehicle *I* require the paint to be to a certain standard; not perfect of course, but kept well enough that the weekly/bi-weekly/monthly upkeep won't require an entire day. So for the first visit I normally wash & wax any/all cars and set aside a little time for paint correction on say, one of the cars... for the ongoing visits I continue to wash & wax the cars and correct one/two more each time until all are corrected enough that I can just show up, wash them, and be gone. For daily drivers generally they don't want perfection; but for the garage queens they do, so I tend to spend more time on those getting them just so.

For clients like that I just charge an hourly rate minus say 10% an hour, so basically they get a free hour of work each visit (until I am done with the correction, then they just save ~$10-$30 or so a visit).

Re: Multiple Cars

Did he ASK for a discount? I seldom discount anything - and most folks with 'fleets' are looking more for quality, professionalism, and dependability.

I'd go in with the full, fair price. And do my best work.

Good Luck!

Jim
