Unfortunately my monthly trip to the Promised Land was cut very short this month because a family health emergency (which will be okay) so I will have a couple more nice cars from the Promised Land in a couple weeks. However, I was able to get my hands on this gorgeous Ferrari 360 before I had to leave.
The paint was swirled and had light holograms in the front, but was very glossy and the interior was perfect! The car had been polished by a body shop, so most of the swirls that remained where very deep into the paint and took a lot more time than I anticipated to remove! The where a couple areas I would have liked to have more time to perfect, but since the owner is getting married next weekend (congrats), I figure on my next trip down, I will swing by and touch up a couple areas. A new wife and a perfectly clean Ferrari, life sounds good
Also, the paint had a type of milky defect in the rear quarter panel (passenger side) that I tried 4 passes of compound on, which reduced the appearance of, but did not eliminate the defect. After 4 passes, the last as high as 2500 RPM, I decided to not push my luck and risk thinning the clear coat more then necessary. Also, there was a long scuff/scratch along the passenger side rear QP and door that polished out about 95 percent.
I planned on documenting my work, but I'm new to the Nikon and couldn't capture the defects under halogens.

Some before pictures!
The front had light swirls and some hologramming
The engine cover had moderate swirls that turned out to be fairly deep into the paint.
The best picture I could capture for the scratches under Xenon light
The 3M Extra Cut removed 90-95 percent of the scratch after one pass and about 99 percent after the second. Here is a picture after the 1st pass. You can see the fine micro swirling left behind from the aggressive nature of the compound.
The Xenon light died after this so I was unable to capture the removal of the scratch and the subsequent compounding marks. Arghhh....
Okay some afters, after 4 coats of Zaino in the sunlight (the true test of swirl correction).
The finish came out over 99 percent swirl free (I was very impressed with the 3M polishing system on the particular paint).
