All black!

2008 Lexus ES350. He gave his Nissan Titan to his wife and his '06 Accord to one of his sons and bought this ES350. Says it should stay a lot cleaner than the previous two now that 2 of his kids have their own cars. He got black because he trusts me to keep it looking good.

The car had been on the dealer's lot a couple of months and one of their detail monkees left a few holograms on the car. One on the hood and a couple lighter ones on the trunk lid. I guess it could have been worse...

Optimum Polish via UDM using a yellow Meguiars polishing pad.

After polishing, I sealed the car using Clearkote's Carnauba Moose.

I'm a bit partial to this shot....

==============

2000 Mercedes C320. I was warned in advance it needed a lot of work, especially the interior. Honestly though, it wasn't any worse than most other mom-mobiles. Should have taken some before and afters though, turned out pretty decent. Anyway, when I washed and clayed the car, I was stunned to see how bad the paint was. Spider swirls, scuffs, paint transfers, etc. I was more stunned to hear it was detailed by the dealer in May. No way, that was 4 months ago! It looked like the paint hadn't ever been polished. I pointed this all out to her while there was still some sun hitting the car and she said she never really noticed all that until I pointed it out to her.

Anyway, I told her full correction (as good as I could get it) would take around 3 hours of polishing. She said to pay more attention to the interior this time, since she was so upset with the job the dealer had done (her kid's footprints were still on the back of the front seats when she picked it up) and she was going to need the car by 7 PM (I got there around 2 PM). I ended up going with Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze using my UDM and a yellow Meguiars polishing pad. I was able to get some pretty good correction with #80 since this was a non-ceramicleared Mercedes. Not perfect but the owner was really happy how much blacker her car was. She said she will start calling me out every couple of months and next time to focus more on the paint.

I finished it off with a test sample of a Meguiars LSP. No idea if it is fully synthetic, a carnauba blend or what. It smells like NXT. Looks amazing on black! By the time I finished, it was nearly 7 PM and the sun was getting low.

Oh yeah, you can see in a few of the pics the PT Cruiser I rented while my Mazda was in the shop getting the timing belt/water pump/tensioner, etc changed. If you absolutely HATE acceleration, a PT Cruiser with the n/a 4 cylinder and automatic is your dream car.

Re: All black!

Wow, what a beauty. I love seeing details done on black cars, they give the best shine and reflection. That one particular Lexus shot with the Bug in it, it's like 2 cars in 1. Awesome work, Scott.

After getting my car worked on, I figured it was about time to clean it up since it had been months since it has had anything more than a couple of washes. The paint wasn't too bad though. Same as the C320 above, #80 and the Meguiars test LSP.

A few shots near sundown right after finishing:

And a few hazy sun shots the next day.

=============

2007 Chevy Corvette Z06. Last used UPGP about 4 weeks ago but he wants it waxed every time I wash it. I used the Meguiars test LSP.

2007 Chevy Silverado LTZ. Only a couple months old, didn't need anything more than a light polish and wax. I went with Optimum Poli-Seal using a yellow Meguiars polishing pad via UDM and waxed with Clearkote's Carnauba Moose.

Re: All black!

The shot of the bug in the "L" looked amazing! Also the 2nd picture of the "MB" looks almost transparent and just see through for miles!

Is the wax you tested on the "MB." Was it called 129D? If you can't say in the thread nor in PM, that's fine.

Thanks! I was really struck by how the basketball goal seems suspended in the 320's paint. Really nice 3D look.

I do believe that is the name of the test LSP I have. It is absolutely killer on black paint. Very slick too. I used it on a Suburban a few weeks back and when I went back out to detail their LX470, the husband mentioned how clean the Suburban still looked after a week of rain.

There ya go! I couldn't think of the word to describe it.

I can't wait to try the 129D.

Re: All black!

Scott: Great work on those black vehicles. It's good to see another detailer getting slammed with these too LOL!

Boy, I'd like to get some sample Meg's too. Should I pm Mike? I've got 3 more black BMW's in the line...oh, and 1 Sterling Silver.
