TropicallyDetailing:BimmerPower/2 M5's and 2 M3's (72 pics)

This week featured its share of BMW "M" Power.

Story

The first M5, an '07 was a weekly wash of a previously detailed car. This was just the introduction for the week which featured 3 more "M" power bimmers. The same client owned the remaining three, his wife's M3 conv, his M5, and his custom M3.

Pictures/Story '07 M5

Weekly wash with ONR, wiped with Z8
Z16 on tires

Next the M3/M5 where done on the second day. The M3 Convert belongs to his wife and has a couple custom parts, the M5 is an '01 and features custom body, rims, and engine parts pushing the engine to 403 horses at the rear wheels.

The M3 was light silver and didn't need much correction.

Process
Wash ONR/PS21 on the rims
ZAIO via PC, LC white pad
Z2pro
Z16 on tires
Z9/Z10 on leather
Megs' natural shine dash
Raggtop on top
NXT Metal Polish on exhaust
Meg's Hyperdressing 3:1 on plastics/wheels/engine

M3 conv pics, before

Polishing the carbon fiber spoiler with the PC with ZAIO

Z2pro curing on the M3

The AIO did an amazing job cleaning up the rear wing. Before it was slightly dull and oxidized, but the AIO cleaned/polished the surface and brough the gloss factor way up.

Next up was the M5, which was going to require a full correction do to extreme swirling. The color was a deep blue which was almost black.

Process
Wash NXT Wash/PS21 on the rims
Menzerna PowerGloss on Shelegal twisted wool, 2000 rpm
Menzerna SIP on Lake Country White pad, 1500 rpm
Alcohol wipe/ Z7 wash
Z5 pro x 2
Z2pro
ZAIO on glass, rims
CS
Z16 on tires
Z9/Z10 on leather
Megs' natural shine dash
NXT Metal Polish on exhaust
Meg's Hyperdressing 3:1 on plastics/wheels/engine

The M5 taped off so I could figure out my process

Before, it was much worse in person (right side of hood)

After (left side of hood)

50/50

Clear Seal drying

Re: TropicallyDetailing:BimmerPower/2 M5's and 2 M3's (72 pics)

As I finshed up the M5 (after 6 hours) I snapped some photos of the M3 conv.

The owner pulling the M5 out

A couple pictures from this morning when I showed up for the clients M3 showcar...

This morning I returned to the M3 Showcar. This thing is sick from head to toe, with custom carbon fiber everywhere, a 400 hp built motor, brembo brakes, ect... This car is done right and kept in amazing shape. Infact the owner had paid to have 3 extra clear coats sprayed on the car, it looked amazing.

Process M3 showcar

Wash with Z7/Clay Z18/PS21 on rims
Z-PC @ 1300 rpm on LC 7 1/2 CCS Orange pad
Z AIO via PC/ LC 6 1/2 CCS White pad
Z2 pro
CS
Z8 wipe
Z16 tires
Z9/Z10 on leather
Z AIO on carbon fiber (interior and exterior)/glass/trim
Meg's Natural Shine on dash

After only, I was rushed...

The interior was an interesting mix of silver carbon fiber/carbon fiber everwhere, including the seat backs!

Carbon door handles

Carbon front grills

Outside for some final afters. Carbon on the headlights, front grill...
Also the custom rims and brembo brakes go perfectly with this car.

Yep, those are the Volk CE28 Time Attack wheels. I'd love to have a set on my car.

I really like the looks of the last M3, very nice.

excellent excellent work AS USUAL Todd, I admire your consistency.
And the 50/50 shot of the blue bimmer is spot on,
SIP/white pad via rotary finished down so nicely in the after shot.
Do you give rotary tuition?

Todd, have you tried Meguiar's Wheel Brightener?
how would you compare it to the p21s?

thanks

The M3 has headers, cam, heads, ect ect ect... Pretty much everything that can be done and lays over 400 horsepower out. It also has been GPS certified at over 180!!!

The M5 has Dinan parts under the hood (cam, intake, headers) and is pushing 500 horses at the crank, as well as a full Dinan body kit. It has huge money invested in it as well, but has a more subtle look.

Honestly, not too bad Ryan. The M5's paint was harder than normal, and most of it was pretty bad (worse then the pictures let on) but a wool pad and powergloss was able to cut most of the swirls and scratches out quickly.

The newer M3 had the soft Bimmer paint, which finished nice with AIO on the PC.

Nice job and nice score!
Thanks Diesel. The M5 I think had more invested (or a similar amount as the Dinan parts are very expensive). The owner is very fanatical about his cars and I am honored to have worked on all 3 as he really does an amazing job keeping them up. The M5 has 80,000 miles on it, and the leather looks brand new all the way around.

Fish thanks for your kind words, espically considering the work you turn out (amazing) in a less than ideal climate!!!

I have used Meg's WB plenty of times, and wish I would have had it for the M3's cont.'s rims. Even cut like 10:1, I find WB to be much stronger than the P21s. However, I try to avoid it because of its strength, it can really etch/stain some rims. The P21s is mild but works over time (P21s claims you can leave it on the rims for up to two hours to let it work).

A couple Ferrari's that I do have like 15,000 dollar rims, so I like using the mildest cleaner I can that still gets the job done right. I think there is a place for both products in a detailers line up.
