First up is the Range Rover. This was the fully loaded/supercharger version that belongs to a client of mine. The car was in pretty poor shape on the outside, as it was so swirled/scratched that it actually looked a dull gray in sunlight (instead of black flake).
I had originally planned a very detailed thread, but first my halogen lights blew out (all four) then the batteries in my Cannon died.
Once again, I want to reinerate how nice it is too work for sweet people who truely appericate the hard work we put into thier vehicles. The owner is one of the sweetest ladies I have had the pleasure of working for (the same with her husband, whose Bentley I detailed the week previous)!
I really wanted to have work in progress (before/after) shots because I was able to make a huge difference in the appearance of the Range Rover.
Process
I started by detailing the rims with P21s Wheel Gel, sprayed on each wheel and left to dwell. The tires and rims where cleaned with
Meguiars APC cut 4:1. Then each rim was agitated with a cut paint brush, sponge, and wheel brush. I also used a q-tip to clean inside of the lugs and other difficult areas.
Then the car was presoaked using Zaino Z7 in the foam gun. Since the car was so badly marred, I didn't use two buckets. After the car was washed, I dried it using a Cobra Guzzler. I also washed the door jambs at this point.
The car was clayed using Zaino Z18 while it was still wet, using
Meguiars Last Touch as a lube. Despite the condition of the paint, it was pretty contaminant free. The only area that was rough was the rear bumper and roof.
Then I pulled the car in the garage and backed the Bentley out. I started polishing by using LC White pad/ 106ff, which the swirls laughed at. I stepped up to LC Orange Pad/S.I.P. but still took 4-5 passes to make a dent in the swirls. Finally I switched to the LC Foam Wool Pad with SIP, and that sped up the process by providing more cut. I polished the whole car with Foam Wool/SIP combo making two to three passes until the defects where gone.
Then the car was polished with a LC White Pad/106ff. I wiped the entire car down with 50/50 alcohol, including the glass and rims and spent quite a while removing wax and dirt from the grill and emblems with a q-tip dipped in alcohol as well as removing the polishing dust. I also wiped down the jambs with Z6.
The interior was vacuumed and wiped down with
Meguiars' Quik Interior Detailer. 303 Protectent was used on the plastic surfaces, the painted surfaced received Z-PC/Z2pro by hand, and the leather was cleaned/conditioned with the Z9/Z10 brothers. The interior windows where cleaned with Stoner's I.G.
The wheel wells where dressed with
Meguiars' Hyperdressing 3:1 and the tires received 2 coats of Zaino Z16. The exhaust was polished with Eagle One's never dull topped with
Meguiars'
NXT All Metal Polysh.
Finally 2 coats of Z5pro (mixed with ZFX) where applied to the body, exterior glass, rims and jambs. I finished by a final wipe with Z8 then pulled the cars outside for a quick photo shoot. Unfortunately the lawn service people where waiting on me to finish so they could turn on the sprinklers (the owner had told them not turn on the sprinklers until the cars where in the garage) so I didn't take a lot of photos like normal.
One to the photos
First the condition of the car before starting...
The rims condition before.
Sprayed with P21s Wheel Gel..
Agitated...
Detailing with a Q-Tip to get those hard to reach places...
The rims all cleaned up...
Time for a Z7 bath!
After the wash, you can see how scratched the paint was in the dry areas and how there was no water beading. The color actually looks gray compared to the wet areas.
Updated Pic This is a crop of the photo above, with the sharpness increased to better show the condition
Here is the picture of the car trying to capture the swirls. They where 100 percent worse then they looked in the picture, the surface was trashed!
I made 2-3 passes of
Menzerna S.I.P. with the wool pad...
Then I followed up with LC White Pad/ 106ff to finish to a brilliant gloss.
I finished up with the interior/zaino/tires/rim ect (my camera died so I had to spot the documentation until I got it outside)...
Outside, the Range Rover is looking black again!!!
Swirl free and flakes a poppin'
I only had time for one picture of the interior since the lawn people where patiently waiting on me to finish up...
