Jaguar XK, Ford Windstar

2007 Jaguar XK. Owner bought it lightly used and had it shipped here from Florida. The interior was pretty clean but the paint was covered in grit, so I spent a good 30 extra minutes during the wash claying it with Mother's Clay Bar. The paint had a good bit of spider swirling too so I started off with Optimum Compound using orange Edge Cyclo cutting pads. I had to put a fair amount of pressure on my Cyclo to remove the swirls too. I followed with Zaino Z-PC using green Edge Cyclo polishing pads, combined they removed 90-95% of the swirls. I sealed the paint with Opti-Seal.

I took some shots in the garage since the sun was actually out and the car would be parked on concrete for the outdoor shots and I knew the sun would pretty much blow away the reflections once I pulled the car out.

Maybe I am easily amused but I thought it was pretty good how the chrome wheels left reflections on the concrete.

2001 Ford Windstar. I was also supposed to detail their Cadillac STS but when the dealer was doing the inspection, the tech closed the door on something hanging from the ceiling and then backed up, damaging the door frame and busting out the window.

Anyway, they used to have a white Caravan that I had detailed last summer but it was getting up there mileage-wise so they bought a low mileage used Windstar from his parents. Other than regular washings, I was told the van had probably never been polished and rarely waxed. He also asked me to clean and protect the vinyl but not to spend too much time since they have a young kid.

The back of the van was the worst, just some general grime on the sides.

I used a Meguiars Super Terry towel dampened with the regular car wash dilution of Optimum No Rinse and wiped the vinyl down-did a really good job if you ask me.

The exterior was a bit grimey from the non stop rain (more than 11 inches now in June) but otherwise not too bad in these before shots.

After an ONR wash and some light claying (Mothers again), I started polishing with Zaino Z-PC using green Edge Cyclo pads, bumping up to Optimum Compound and orange Edge Cyclo cutting pads on the hood (it looked like someone had set something on the hood then dragged it off). I hadn't anticipated the sun going away so quickly, so I used a light he had in the garage for these two shots. Not sure what caused the difference in color.

By the time I finished polishing and then sealing with Optimum's Opti-Seal, it was raining, which later turned into an all out deluge, making for a less than fun drive home. Anyway, I had to take the after pics in their garage under less than ideal lighting conditions.

The bumpers were dressed with Armor All, the rest of the plastic trim and mirrors with Opti-Seal.

Scott, Beautiful work!

I think that Jag looks super in White - classy and understated. Now that Scott performed his magic I wouldn't mind having it sit in my driveway. I recently drove a new XK and XKR. The XK in IMO is nothing special but the XKR is pretty darn nice (although overpriced like pretty much everything these days).

Re: Jaguar XK, Ford Windstar

The problem with a white Jag (in the Uk at least) is that a 3 year old white one has a book value of £3000 less than any other colour. Shifting a white Jag can be very, very difficult.

Re: Jaguar XK, Ford Windstar

The Jag looks great. Did you hv trouble seeing where you applied the OS on the white paint? I haven't used it on white yet but have a white merc to detail tmrw. Thinking of wither PS/OS or PS/OCW.

Get a Meguiars foam hand applicator (I know Pep Boys carries them) because the foam pads that come with Opti-Seal work fine but are a bit grabby. Just lightly spritz the foam pad (NOT THE PAINT, that causes you to use too much product) and then spread over a section and gently work in as you would a wax. You will feel increased drag on the pad when it is time to spritz it again. If OS is not drying very quickly (less than 20-30 seconds) you are using too much.

pt91-OS, applied as above, won't streak. I may get a random streak every 3rd or 4th car I do, if that.

Macko-could be why he bought a white one then. Let someone else eat the depreciation and then get a good deal on the car.

Re: Jaguar XK, Ford Windstar

Ah, just seen it was bought used - spent too long looking at the pictures. Yeah, if the price is right you get a lot more car for the same money.

Really enjoying your work at the moment, it's giving me something to aim for.
