Water spotted/smokers Accord

So yeah....the title pretty much says it all. The owner smokes and was forced to park in an apartment building parking lot for a while, right next to a sprinkler....double whammy!
So those were the main focus of the detail: Get rid of the smoke smell and the water spots. The smoke smell was a learning experience but it seems as though it worked out well....she couldn't smell any smoke smell when she picked it up....neither could her friend who didn't smoke. There was some "etching" from the water spots that required me to do a three step polish....but the end results were worth it.....I think.

Process to follow:

Wash w/Dawn
Wheels cleaned w/Megs WB
Wells with Megs DG
Clayed w/Megs Clay (Mild....which is about to get thrown away....not aggresive enough)
3 step polish:
OC w/yellow CCS
SSR 1 w/orange CCS
Kaio w/CCS white
Topped w/#16 (Kind of a "Megs" day huh?)
Wheels and wells dressed with Hot Tire Shine

Interior Process:
Three heaping plates of baking soda were left in the car from Friday night to Sunday morning to help with odor removal. It made a noticeable difference.
Vacuumed and then vacuumed again
Mats were cleaned w/APC and LGCM
Seats and carpet sprayed w/APC and agitated with interior brush
Seats and carpet were spot cleaned w/LGCM
Headliner was wiped down w/APC
Whole interior sprayed down w/Megs Odor Elminator x2
(This step seemed to make the biggest difference)

Engine was cleaned w/Megs APC and dressed w/Megs HD

Re: Water spotted/smokers Accord

Car looks good. Care to elaborate on using baking soda to remove the odor?

Re: Water spotted/smokers Accord

Just something I was trying. We always put boxes of baking soda in the cupboards and the freezer the reduce odors....thought it might work in a car also!

You put the baking soda in plates? Why didn't you just sprinkle it on the seats and carpet? I've done that for carpets in the house when I don't want to extract, and it does wonders for odor removal. You might want to try that next time.

Re: Water spotted/smokers Accord

I never though about sprinkling it around the interior and I wanted more of the b/s out in the open than what would have been opened just sitting in the box. Sprinkling it around is worth a shot though....next time!!

Re: Water spotted/smokers Accord

Great job removing that etching and cleaning the engine! What did you use on the engine?

The tire in the first two photos looks low. Probably just my imagination.

Re: Water spotted/smokers Accord

That looks great! Did you use a rotary followed by PC? And you you liked the Odor Eliminator huh? Good to know I've had it for three years and never really used it. And thanks for the 3day baking soda tip too.

Re: Water spotted/smokers Accord

Great work on the entire car! It's good to hear what your process was on a smoker's car.
