A buddies Daily Driver

I didn't have a paying detail this weekend so I worked on a buddies truck for him. It's a '91 Mitsubishi pickup and hasn't had anything done to it except a wash now and then. The pics aren't the best but the truck really looks a lot different in person. It's all dented and scratched and the detail didn't fix any of that.....but it did take a lot dead paint off of it and it looks a ton better!!

What I did:

Wash with Dawn
Polished with both ScratchX and Mothers power polish using LC Yellow pads
Finished with Megs GC.
He did the wheels and interior

This was a definite lesson in how to polish!! I worked my a$$ off on this and filled every pad I had with red paint! It looks a lot better than it did and my buddy is happy!

why scratch X with a heavy cutting pad??? I think that something like OC on a orange pad then poliseal or OP on a polishing pad would have yielded better results...

You are probably right but I didn't have any OP...all I had was Mothers PP and ScratchX. I have had really good luck with PP but it wasn't "cutting" it on paint that had never had anything done to it. I knew that I couldn't expect much from this paint but it wasn't even pulling the very deeply etched water spots off the hood. So I switched to ScartchX for the spot removal and finished with the Mothers PP with (oh $hit...now that you mention it) an LC orange pad. Sorry about that. I did use an orange pad with the PP and a yellow with the ScratchX. It's been a few days since the detail I didn't remember what all I had used.

Like I said, the pictures don't do it justice and it's no where near the caliber of the other automobiles on here but we were happy with the results!!

Aren't those white things on the bonnet (hood) chipped paint? how did you get that removed, if you did get it removed, from polishing?

bonoz: If you are talking about those "drop" looking things in the first pic, it was just something that was on the hood and it came out with a little work.

You can actually buy 3M rubbing compound at walmart. It's a little expensive at $7 for a small bottle but it has worked great for me in the past. I'd compare it to SSR 2.5 because it actually finished out for me well. You can find it next to the wetsanding paper. Good OTC product when in a pinch.

Thats come up very well looking at the pics - liking the 50/50 shot on the bonnet, a good truaround of the paint.

Dave KG: Thanks a lot!! I appreciate that!! I am not crazy about my camera nor am I crazy about my picture taking skills!! LOL!! I am sure the camera will take better pictures once I figure out how to "make" it take better pictures!!

Looks great for OTC products, but I would definately advise against doing a Dawn wash......
