2 Cayenne Turbos, 2 boats, H2, Z06

Drove down to Austin on Sunday night, after washing, polish and waxing 5 vehicles earlier that day (turbo Cayenne, LX470, 2 Accords and an F-250) for one of my regulars up here in the Arlington area. Posted pics of all of them after doing the same in May, so no pics of them this time.

We hit Austin around 11 PM but we ran into a hard contruction back-up 2 miles from our exit, so we didn't get to the hotel until almost 11:30 PM...and we were starting at 9 AM the next morning. Fun.

The cars and boats were in a warehouse owned by a friend of the owners of the cars/boats. The guy does repos, so that is why there are so many RVs in there. The first Cayenne Turbo and boat were waiting for us when we got there:

My son was already busy removing stuff from the boat so he could get started on it:

Boats can be tough to do, the gel coat is rock hard and the interiors see hard use. They get wet contantly and people tend to party a bit on boats, not to mention they sweat and leave suntan lotion and sunblock in the grain of the vinyl seats. The two we did this time weren't too bad, the main time killer is all the cushions and compartments boats have.

My son used Woolite/water to clean and Optimum Protectant Plus to dress:

I buffed out the exterior, luckily both boats are pretty new and weren't oxidized at all. However, gel coats are very hard so I used Optimum Hyper Compound using the orange Cyclo cutting pads and was able to go right to waxing with Meguiars #16 Paste. Absolutely no hazing at all with what would be a very aggressive combo on automotive paint. I was told not to worry about the very bottom section of the boats, both were going right back into the water anyway.

I only have a finished exterior shot of the other boat, I only had a single roll of film with me. I thought I had brought more. Oh well. Same process on this boat, in and out:

2 Porsche Cayenne Turbos-ended up doing a total of 3 in 3 days! This metallic black one was in overall excellent condition. Didn't need any heavy polishing so I used Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze with green Propel lite cut Cyclo pads and sealed with Meguiars #16. Only one shot of this one, did it on the 2nd day when I realized how little film I had left.

The second Cayenne Turbo has had several panels repainted by the previous owner after it was keyed. The shop did a good job matching the color and buffing it out (no rotary swirls at all that I could find) but the orange peel on some of the panels is just horrendous. I guess there were no rotary swirls because they didn't wetsand out the orange peel. Dead on, the paint actually looks really good but at an angle, you can really see the orange peel.

I went with Optimum Compound mixed 70/30 with Clearkote's Red Machine Glaze using green Propel lite cut Cyclo pads and topped with Poorboy's EX w/carnauba.

2004 Hummer H2. I had done an exterior detail on it in early spring when the owner was up in the Dallas area so it was still in decent shape-other than some scratches from driving through brush. Really light though. I used Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze with green Propel lite cut Cyclo pads and topped with Meguiars NXT Paste. I hadn't used NXT in a while, I almost forgot how great it looks on black paint.

Oh yeah, great brush guard design, pull two pins and it lowers down and out of the way so cleaning the front end is a lot easier.

The owner of the warehouse brought an RV by when my son and I were finishing up the first day and asked if we'd have time to detail his '99 Z06 Vette the following day. We had the second boat, Cayenne and another Z06 already to do, so I told him I'd try to get to it but I couldn't make any promises. He said he'd bring it up in the morning and if we could get to it, great, if not, he'd catch us next time. A couple hours later, I took my son out to eat at Outback Steakhouse and on the way to our table was Ken, the owner of the warehouse! He said if we could at least get the interior done on his 'Vette, that'd be great.

Anyway, he shows up with the Z06 in the morning and from what I can see, it looks to be in excellent condition. I told him we could at least do the interior and maybe a wash and wax on the outside. The other Z06 wasn't supposed to be there until late afternoon and the Cayenne and boat we had to do didn't look too bad.

We ended up detailing the interior and doing a wash and an application of Meguiars #16 on the 'Vette-then find out the other Z06 is still in the shop. At that point, I really didn't feel like polishing through a fresh layer of #16 and to be quite honest, the 'Vette was as swirl free as any 7-year-old car I'd ever seen. Still, it would have been nice to have done the other Z06 too.

stunning work Scott.

Nice Pictures too!

Few things:

1 - you have to get yourself some #1000 from FK1. While I love #16 there is no comperison between the 2. You will see how durable #1000 is once you put it on a boat.

2 - tell me your reasoning for using #16 on black and EX on silver. I'd do it the other way around.

Or is it a typo?

1. I have 3 full tins of #16, I figure I'll use them up before I start trying other stuff. I just have so many LSPs right now.

2. I used EX on the grey because of the slight darkening effect and how great it looks on medium to dark greys. I used #16 on the metallic black because I find that really clear LSPs really do justice to that color.
