I couldn't wait to detail this car.

I know I haven't posted for ever (have tons of pictures though) but this is a very rare car so I thought why not? I have a feeling that there are many Porsche fans on Autopia

1989 928.

I detailed the interior in February. Pictures will be posted later this week. The owner made a wise decision to wait until now to have me do the exterior. It was way too cold around here 4 months ago. Today however was an almost perfect day.

wash
clay
tape down rubber

ended up using:

OHC, LC Yellow pad, 1500rpm
OC, LC Orange Pad 1200rpm
OC, LC Orange pad PC speed 6
FK1 #2180, Sealant, Propel Blue pad PC speed 4
PB Natty's (original) by hand
FK1 #394 on wheels
PB NL on tires, wing (parts of it is faded )

Pictures were taken by the owner, my pictures will be up later.

BEFORE

AFTER

here are some of what I took

before - this was the least amount of swirled area as far as I could see and it was partly cloudy in the AM so I had to try taking a quick before picture.

after polishing

I'd say 90% of the swirls were removed. The car has a few spots where the clear coat is gone, so I wanted to preserve as much as possible.

Talk about a money shot, that last one is awesome. The paint looks so much darker/deeper; excellent job.

CJ - Yes I did it right there on the spot. That is what you get when you are mobile. Actually a "spot" like that is a dream come true.

Picus - thanks man! His after pictures sure make me look good

Some more:

Thumbs up

I always think your work is outstanding Thomas but you've outdone yourself. That 928 looks like it's new. I guess if that wing was redone it'd look even better. Loved that model, will have to think about looking for one.

Unreal shine and gloss on the paint!

Looks to me like you got all the swirls too.

928s are pretty rare on the board, I did one a few months ago and I don't remember seeing one before that and I've been here going on 5 years. Really cool cars, beautiful styling.

man - nice job...i should consult you when I have issues w/ my Porsche paint
The funny thing is, I was just looking around online for 928s - getting really hard to find in decent shape...that one looks as if there's not a ding, scratch anywhere! Great job, once again-

Absolutely awesome! I'm always a sucker for a 928, but that notwithstanding, what an incredible job. Those 'after' shots are stunning.

The sad thing is that they built a lot of them. It’s just that so few have been maintained.

Of the 928’s I do see I’d guess maybe one in five looks good, the rest go from pretty beat to totally thrashed.

Great to see an owner taking care of one (and having you work your magic on it ).

PC.
