Latest details™ v. Pair of 3's, G35 Coupe, lots of Collinite!

This is my Dad's 2004 Honda Accord. His birthday was last week and due to my trip to see my son up at his school, I didn't make it back in time for the party. In addition, I was going to use his garage to detail the upcoming G35 so I figured I'd toss a coat of wax on his car.

He went ahead and washed it before I got there, and had just begun to dry it using terry cloth towels. The car was covered in water beads so I told him to stop, removed the nozzle from the hose (he ran out of QEW) and ran the water over the car, and about 90% of the water sheeted off. I then got out a waffle weave microfiber and another plush mf and showed him how to dry it off that way. Took him less than 10 minutes, and he seemed really glad to find a much faster way to dry the car.

I simply applied a coat of Collinite 845 Insulator Wax by hand.

I was just finishing up when the G35 showed up and as the sun hit the car, I could see a multitude of drying streaks and some scuffs on the paint. He asked me to pull out all the stops and make it as black and wet as possible.

I started with Optimum Polish and followed with Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze, then moved on to Clearkote's Vanilla Moose, all using Meguiars polishing pads. I then sealed it with Collinite 845. I finished right before dusk, so I am amazed the pics came out as good as they did. Probably should have closed the garage door when shooting the rear of the car though...

A pair of 1999 BMW M3s.

This one was in pretty decent shape, mostly minor cobwebbing and some stone chips in the hood. I started with Optimum Polish using a Meguiars polishing pad, then Clearkote's Red Machine Glaze using a blue Propel finishing pad and topped with Collinite 845 Insulator Wax. The pics don't really show it but the metallic in the paint was really busting out, the owner was very pleased.

This one was tougher, probably among the worst spider swirls I have ever seen. He bought the car used and was really tired of how it looked in the sun. Of course, the sun was peaking in and out of the clouds and by the time I finished, the sun was almost setting so no way to get a true before and after. The owner was taking pics too, so if he has some before and afters that came out good, I'll post them.

I first started with Optimum Compound and a Meguiars cutting pad, slow progress. Then Meguiars #83 DACP with another Meg's cutting pad. A little better but still slow. I then busted out Clearkote's Compound and a Meguairs cutting pad and that seemed to really do the trick. Took a lot of slow passed with the buffer speed at 6, but the improvement was very dramatic. I then used Meguiars #80 Speed Glaze with a Meguiars polishing pad and sealed it with Collinite 845.

A shot of both cars together.

Wow...that G35 is awesome Nice work Scott. I just used some 845 this past weekend as part of my winter prep on my 4Runner. I was very impressed with the look and how easy it was to use.

It is funny how pictures bring imagery to ones Minds eye. When I read the comment about closing the door of the garage I had it in my mind to see that door when the picture came up in the post. You know I looked at the first set of pictures three times before I saw the garage door. The last picture of the G35 just produced a picture of deep space. Like going into a cavern. It is funny to me how one picture, that had a critique by the creator of the picture, is the one that captured my eye.

As always....a very nice job!

scott - this peaked my interest. So clearkote's compound has more bite than Optimum and DACP ? How does it leave the finish ?

Couldn't you have gone straight to the Clearkote Compound ?

Going from Optimum , then to DACP , then to some other smr would be a lot of time wasted for me. I commend your time efforts.. I surely never have that luxury

awesome work as always..

Awesome as always. I'll chip in $5 if that G35 owner puts some clear corners on.
