Porsche 944 Turbo detail

One of the guys on offtopic.com is a regular customer of mine and he got this Porsche 944 a few months ago and just recently started driving it regularly. I knew it was black and had the original paint and it would be a single stage paint job.

This picture is pretty representative of the overall condition of the paint.

I used a flash because I knew it would magnify the paint problems, mostly light fading, only moderate reflections and massive spiderweb swirls.

After one pass by hand with Meguiars Swirl Free (using a terry cloth towel folded into 1/8ths size) and working it into the paint until almost clear and dry, this is what the paint looked like, and again, I used the flash to make sure any surface problems left would be visible.

Unfortunately, the flash hit right on the Porsche emblem so I guess the shot isn't 100% the same, but as you can see, there was a huge reduction in the spider swirls and the reflections are much stronger and sharper.

I went over the top of the car one more time with Swirl Free, then once over the whole car with Vanilla Moose and once with Final Polish and then topped it with Carnuba Moose. I was going to take another shot straight off the hood, but I only had 3 shots left on the roll and I had promised the guy I'd post pics of his Porsche on offtopic.com so I had to save them for the whole car shots. Needless to say, the additional polishing steps pretty much removed all the spider swirling and the paint ended up very reflective.

Nice work Scott. I'm constantly amazed at the results you get by hand!

So is that the old GM plant near Division and 6-Flags Mall you're using as a backdrop?

How much more abrassive is DACP then Swirl Free? (I'll be using it with a PC). Very nice job. I just hope I didn't get something too agressive.

No, it is the back lot at Pearson and Patterson off Alpha Road near Midway.
