hi newbie here long time reader but 1st post.. having trouble with collinite iw.. leaving alot of oily residue.. let sit for bout an hr before removing..tried poorboys s&w and s&g and also megs ultimate detailer to try to remove but no luck..not looking good on a big black truck with oil residue any help appreciated...

I've had this happen to me before as well. It leaves a lot of residue thats hard to remove. I thin this is why a lot of folks say it looks better after the first wash... that's the only way I can get it to remove completely.

I'm pretty sure you applied it too thickly. 845 should go on so thinly that you can barely see the layer of wax you put on it. Put it on very thin, and removal will be a cinch.

thanks for the replies guys... 1st side of truck i applyed with a mf applicator..and noticed was going on to thick... other side used pc with black finish pad...but same results... :wall

Even if you use a PC, it's possible that you applied too thick. Can you give some sort of approximation as to how much Collinite you used per panel? Once the pad is saturated with sufficient product, 3-4 dots of Collinite is enough to do one panel.

Have not had problems putting it on real thin. Have allowed two neighbors to use my bottle and told them to do it very thin. Both reported easy on easy off.

Stuff definitely needs to be applied very thin. I had the same issue the first time used it because put on too darn thick.

been using IW 845 since 1974. you are not shaking enough and applying to heavily. when you are applying and think that you are not using enough product, that's about right.:bigups

I would say your applying too thick.

I apply mine via the Pc and a finessing pad at a slow speed about 2 with a couple of dabs and never had any problems.

Yep, and that's true for most all LSPs.

I've never had the oily residue problem with 845 either  Besides the shaking it up (until it's about as thin as milk) and the thin application (can barely see it), I wonder if it could be a humidity-related issue. Some products act weird in hot, high-humidity conditions :nixweiss

That's my thinking as well... either humidity related / or got wet before curing.

Thin as milk?? Holy crap I shook the sh*t out of my 845 and could barely get it to budge.

Also make sure it's the consistancy of 1/2 & 1/2 before you finish shaking it. Yes it does thin out that much when it its mixed well.

i have lived in fort lauderdale about 3 miles from the beach for 27 years. this place is the humidity capitol of the world. my garage is cooled but i have applied 845 many, many times at 90-95% humidity:soscared: . i don't think that's a factor. JFYI. :nixweiss

I dunno, This happened on my last bottle of IW. The older it got the more liquid it got? perhaps I didn't shake it up enough in the times I used it before and was left with a lot of oils? I dunno. I could definitely see some residue, only by my garage motion light (100w halogen) and after waxing and before waxing the first time you could see the dust accumulate in the patterns i wiped it off in. (woo bad sentence structure)

one trick to thin 845 out is to place it in the sunlight for a few minutes before using it-kinda like giving your car a hot wax

Agree, thats what was doing wrong at the time.
