I agree, our Boston accents definitely stand out... The GT should be leaving this weekend, just waiting for the clear-film installer to show up. As for the Hydro-tech pads, they are awesome and I'm glad they're finally available here in the US.

Thanks!
The shop is working out great. It has come a long way from when I moved in, but I still have a lot I want to do. I could live there if I wanted to. There's a full bathroom with a shower, a kitchenette (sink, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, etc., and a nice office upstairs. It's a great backup if the wife ever kicks me out!
I have some T5 HO lighting being installed soon and I would like to have the floor coated as well. The only tough part is not being able to drive on it for several days after it has been applied. Hopefully it will slow down a bit between Thanksgiving and Christmas so I can get it done.
I'm sure you'll get there some day, it just takes time...

Thanks!
As with anything, you aren't going to find one product, pad or tool that works perfectly on everything, but I really do love the new Hydro-tech pads. I find them to work the best on harder clears, such as newer BMW's, MB, Audi, VW and Corvette's. I prefer to use them via rotary and prefer to use the regular 5.5 inch LC flat pads on the PC.

Looks good Rick. We gotta bust out a car together after sled season or something. Auto detailing has been forgotten about once the weather goes below 50F.

Re: Mustang GT Nightmare by Unique Car Care - (Enter at your own risk!!)
outstanding. i have a couple of questions though.
my vehicles aren't in nearly the condition of that car, but they are a little rough. do you feel you could have achieved the same results in the first step using a 7424 and the same pad/product combo albeit taking longer?
secondly, why the black pad with PO85 for the last step? i thought black was for wax since it has no cut?

Re: Mustang GT Nightmare by Unique Car Care - (Enter at your own risk!!)
Jokeman- Thanks Bryan!
That sounds good. Maybe we'll tag team our cars and work on them together, since I never have the time to do my own. It always stinks cleaning your own car...
Cholleman- Thank you very much!
I think you will be able to get some decent results with just a PC, but it will obviously take a little more time. I use the PC on many jobs, but find the rotary works the best at removing the deeper RIDS and more serious defects. This car was in very rough shape, so the rotary was a huge time saver. It really depends on the condition of the car and how hard / soft the paint is. The only way to know is to try it...
The reason for the last step was to raise the gloss a bit and ensure a swirl free finish. The black pad has very little mechanical action, but is commonly used for final polishing. Normally, blue, red or gold pads are used for applying wax, but a black will work also.

Re: Mustang GT Nightmare by Unique Car Care - (Enter at your own risk!!)
Rick I contacted you awhile back on here about my black Shelby and well I was not able to make time this season due to warranty issues with my car and basically not having it most of the time...dam dealers!
After seeing this thread, I absolutely can not wait for you guys to work your magic on mine, although I was already sold on your work anyway but its nice knowing Ford black can look proper!
But really, to go from the condition it was to this is beyond incredible especially considering you had to hold back some.
Will be in touch spring of 2010
Thanks for doing the black car world justice by fixing that mess!
I was staring at the "after" pics for so long it just felt odd not posting about it ahah
