That wasn't a maximum effort??? You sure got a maximum result from what I see. Awesome work!

I find it almost impossible to not go for the best result possible myself. It's especially aggravating after the fact when you see the owner still doesn't care for the car and those results stand out even worse on a polished finish

Re: Mustang GT Nightmare by Unique Car Care - (Enter at your own risk!!)

Awesome work as usual....but I do have one question....what part of the car was repaired/repainted by the body shop??? Every part of the car looked just as bad as the rest.

Hmm....maybe their motto is "You'll never know your car was repaired"; hence they tried to make it blend in with the rest by putting in all the swirls, etc

gmblack3a- Thanks Bryan! It sure was a fun one!

vtec92civic- Thanks!

The paint was definitelt finicky and didn't like the rotary at all. The rotary was the only way I could get out the deeper defects. A far as hours invested, I worked on it over the period of 5 days, but would guess around 15 or more. The time I spent was JUST on the paint. I didn't go nuts on other stuff like I normally do, as I already went way above what I got paid for.

corrswitch- Thanks a lot!

He did get a great deal and I ended up getting another car to detail from it, so I guess it was worth the extra time I put into it.

RaskyR1- Thank you!

The owner was very happy and told me that it was going into storage for the winter. Hopefully he won't treat it the same when he starts driving it again in the spring... I wasn't there to see his face, but I'm sure he was shocked. Didn't even look like the same car!

Re: Mustang GT Nightmare by Unique Car Care - (Enter at your own risk!!)

anbuzero- Thanks! He paid the bill himself because I gave him a great deal and won't to go to the bodyshop for ANYTHING from now on...

RTexasF- Thank you very much!

You're right, I didn't get paid enough for the job, but it's just the way I am I guess. Too nice!

TLMitchell- Thanks TL!

At first, I didn't plan on going crazy, but I started messing around with different combos and saw how good it was turning out. The rest was history! I think that sometimes I go the extra mile for my own satisfaction, even though the customer doesn't even care. Like I said, I'm too nice and can't just settle with 'good enough'!

Street5927- Thanks!

One of the fenders was repaired by the body shop and they decided to hammer the other panels with a wool pad to make everything look just as horrible. A lot of it is neglect from the owner too, which didn't help any..

I know exactly what you mean... as do most all of the rest of the obsessive-compulsives on this forum. It isn't about the money, the time or the effort... it's all about the self-gratifying results and the challenge. Get us some couch time and I'm sure it'd lead to a Pulitzer for some enterprising shrink.

Re: Mustang GT Nightmare by Unique Car Care - (Enter at your own risk!!)

These damn body shop hacks make me sick. He really should have reported them to the BBB and mention the words "law suit" to the shop owner. To this day I can't feel comfortable leaving a car with any mechanic or body shop owner. They always destroy a cars finish. I had this happen to me with my old black 2001 Trans Am. When I received the car it was in similiar condition. I reported it to the BBB and threatened the owner with a law suit. I fixed my car myself and the shop owner settled with me out of court with money. I also told every person I know never to use them and to spread the word. Being in real estate got the word out quickly let me say! Maybe if more people didn't allow for situations like this to occur and actually DO something about it more shops would be inclined to do reputable work. God I hate all body shops and mechanics....

Re: Mustang GT Nightmare by Unique Car Care - (Enter at your own risk!!)

There are certainly a lot of shade tree mechanics whoring themselves out as the real deal. There are one or two local oil changing shops that can't even get that right, often using the wrong oil, reused oil, or no oil at all. It amazes me what some places get away with.

Great work on that paint by the way, I too was wondering what you normally did if that wasn't even max effort.
