It can but usually a damp MF removes any residue from either pretty quickly.

Oh ok. Do you remove the residue on the black moldings after working a certain panel? Or is it OK to do it after the entire car is done? What about covering up these areas with painters tape? would you recommend covering them or would it be unnecessary?
Does the buildup in door, trunk, hood crevices build up? and are they easy to remove?
I'm sorry for all the noob questions. I'm considering ordering a kit and i'd like to allay any "fears" I may have. I like how you brought out the shine in those cars you posted. I was just blown away with the Harley too.
I have a 2004 M3 in titanium silver which I'd like to bring to tip top shape as well.
Thanks again for the help!

With a rotary, I always tape, with a PC, not so much unless the plastic has a textured surface. I wipe anything off after each panel. #105/205 clean up quick from between body panels and trunk jambs.
Devilsown-they really aren't that expensive used...

More than I can afford for the next 10 years or so, sometimes I hate military pay checks but someone has to do it, hey you want to spot me a few thousand bucks?

Excellent results - a stable of BMW's finished with Optimum!! Sweet.
Scottwax, BTW, did you say you were using Opti-Clay on the white M? Is that available from somewhere domestically?? Or, is was it a test sample from Optimum? Would appreciate knowing.
Thx.
See ya.

Opti-Clay can't be sold in the US but I believe it is available in Canada and Europe. My Optimum distributor had a few jars left over and I bought some of them. He is saving the rest for himself. My understanding is the Auto Magic exclusive right to market clay in the US expires in 2011.

Scott, every one of these cars are beautiful, as always. On the first one though, you said you took the rotary with some 205 to some holagrams on the C pillar. Why not just use the rotary and 205 on the whole car? Wouldn't this save time and yield better results? I know you probably have a perfectly good answer for that... which is why I'm asking :-). Since I'm getting tired of the time it takes to use my PC 7424, I've really been thinking about getting a rotary. Would you share your insight?

The rest of the car was pretty much swirl free, no need to get any more aggressive than the G110.
I've had mixed results with the KB method so for now, my recommendation would be for anyone looking for serious paint correction to get a rotary. However, I'd keep a DA/RO polisher on hand for your polishing sessions that don't need the power of a rotary.

nice work scott! Hey i just now took notice . . . . . in your pictures your car is in there . . . . is that what you take to detail?
Got any pictures of your setup? I wouldn't mind taking my car sometimes to do some jobs but i'm just not sure everything will fit LoL

Re: 535, IS250, 328, M3, M5, Harley
I post this with fear that it may come across as spam but not my intention, just seeking to inform.
Scott is right I have been using, testing .....and testing some more the OptiCoat since its birth over 4 years ago and it MUST have a clean, oil free surface for proper application.
So after our paint correction we wipe the surfaces down with 91% alcohol prior to OptiCoat being applied. We now spray OptiCoat on instead of wiping it on as this gives best results but it can be applied by hand as long as the applier takes their time and is not in a rush.
Spray method works great but more product is used.....there is a trade off for everything. The OptiCoat can be bought if Optimum is contacted directly. I personally have nothing to do with sales as it has to be formulated when it's ordered. Shelf life is an issue so it's not a product to buy and keep on hand for a long period.
I'm more involved in the testing and trying to figure out its best place in the detailing/reconditioning arena which is coming along but slower than I would like.
As it stands right now only professional detailers can order the product, again I have no control over this so please don't PM or email me asking for samples. I have none to give. I pay for it just like everyone else who orders it. If you want help in application then you can contact me, or Scott.
Scott, excuse the hijack
Great work on the cars!
Anthony
