1999 vw bettle wiith some sanding barry theal presidential details

Ok guys todays post is a hacked up 99 VW Beetle this was the worst I had seen in a while. On my last post I said I wasn't gonna do another write up until I had this special car. Well the car I'm talking about won't be here for a few more days so I thought this would keep you guys happy for now. This car has seen the the tunnels of death one to many times. It came to me from a dealer buddy of mine who got it on a trade in and said Barry Just take care of the paint my guys will do the rest. Anyway enough rambling on. lets get these pics flowing.

The Process
Complete Decontamination of paint using Ardex Fall out remover.
Dry sanding 1200 3M Trizact D/A
Ardex 1500 was used on every step I used Pads for abrasion

Rotary Meg Double sided white wool pad
Rotary Meg Yellow/white wool pad
Rotary SM Arnold green foam pad
Rotary SM Arnold Black foam pad
Rotary SM Arnold white foam pad
Ipa wipedowns consisting of 50%
LSP was Miligore Primo

The before shots.

Here you can see it really don't look that bad right?

Lets take a closer look at this.

At this point I decided to get the paint level enough to start with it fresh so I dry sanded with a D/A using 3m trizact 1200

Here are a few pics along the way

Here are the final shots outside.

Here the beetle is in her hole waiting for delivery!

Thanks guys for looking I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. I love when I get a chance to pull out that D/A makes it a little more interesting. lol May you all be blessed

Awesome job Barry. At what point do you decide to dry or wet sand?

thanks buddy! I love these jobs. I get tired of just polishing nice cars or lightly swirled ones. I love a good challenge

Truthfully a lot of things come into play when I decide to do this stuff. Dry sanding is a fast way for removal, but you have to deal with polishing out pigtails which can be very tough, usally time and money play my biggest factor. dry sanding isn't for a novice though that I can tell ya.

Great Job Barry. As Apollo said, what a turd to start with.

Any measurements beforehand with a PTG? Did you have a good amount of paint to play with?

wonderful job. Yes, if you can disclose the hours it took, that would great.

What did you do for the bumpers and the areas not wet sanded?

No I hardly ever use one. I took off enough to get threw the swirls and rids.

I left the bumpers go, both of them were resprayed before and both were previous sanded, you could see this from the dirt in the paint was sanded flat. so i wasn't risking chances.

That is remarkable!! What a turnaround. I've been trying different combos with my Dub and I could only wish it looked even half as good as that. Well done!
