Premium Detailed Black 1993 Mazda RX-7!

I detailed this Black 1993 RX-7 about a month ago. The owner is the neighbor of my girlfriends parents. After asking me questions after questions for about two months he finally called me to schedule an appointment. After having looked over this car on several occasions I came to the conclusion that a 1 step correction is all that was really worth being done to this car. The car was in horrible shape and really needs a repaint! There were water spots, swirls, RIDS (random isolated deep scratches), oxidation, and just about every other defect you can think of. After trying several polishes I settled on Menzerna PO203. This made the paint look much better. I only detailed the exterior paint, no glass, no wheels, and no tires.

Exterior paint:
Presoak with Dawn
2BM Wash with Dawn
Dry with the Absorber
Clay with Pinnacle Ultra Poly 2 and diluted ONR as clay lube
Polished paint with G110 and LC orange CCS 6.5” and 4”
Sealed paint with Four Star UPP

This is what the car looked like when I showed up.

Now to start the detail with a Dawn presoak

The paint was in horrible shape, but it wasn’t too contaminated.

Now an inspection after wash and clay

I am positive that at this point you understand how hammered this paint was!

Now to the polishing portion of the detail

All taped up

It looks great inside the garage

I had to pull it outside after my test polishing to what worked best

Now some 50/50’s after LC orange and Menzerna PO203

Crap that roof was nasty!

Re: Premium Detailed Black 1993 Mazda RX-7!

After the whole car was polished I pulled it back outside for a hose down and back in to dry it off. Here a couple of pics after the hose down

After it was dry and wiped down with 50/50 IPA it was pulled outside for some pics

Now for the afters. These were after Four Star UPP

I really enjoyed this detail. It was a dramatic improvement over the way the car looked at the beginning of the day.

Thank you for viewing my work! I hope you have enjoyed my write up!

I polished by hand with a LC green hand polishing pad.

Sweet turn around for a 1 step polishing.

I too like 203 but it sure puts down a ton of residue to wipe off.

Cheers,
GREG

Thanks Greg! 203 is my "go to" polish for a 1 step correction.

why not just slightly move the tape for each panel so you have uniform results?

I generally use the green 3m Automotive masking tape, but I had run out and forgot to stop to pick up more before this detail. The green tape is narrower than the blue so there is no real need to go back over the small areas. I guess I could have moved the tape, but I just removed it and hit the areas by hand instead.

UPP is my favorite sealant!

Yes it was alot of tape, lol. I generally dont tape up that much. I was going to use the rotary, but when trying out different combos I decided to go with the G110.
