Envious Detailing: 1968 Mustang Fastback...

...brought back from the dead!! The owner of this car was putting off rebuilding the motor to get it running again and having it to drive around...needless to say, I think that motor will get built much faster now that it looks 100% different!!!

Process included 4 steps...and about 10 hours of pushing it work! (pushing it work is working very efficiently and hard, very little time for breaks to the point where I was exhausted at the end of the detail)

*ONR wash
*sonus grey clay to remove the embedded junk from the paint, which included metal grinding flakes, rust spots, and fallout!
*OC/PFW/1500 to remove the heavy oxidation in the direct sunlight and 95 degree weather (more lubes and longer working time as M105 wasnt cooperating)
*PC/105/orange 5.5"
*PC/OC/uber green
*PC/poliseal/LC black
*chrome was hit with one grand metal 300 and orange pad
*windows with megs glass cleaner
*exceldetail monterray WW towels
*exceldetail titan jr. towel

My process with this car being in direct sunlight and it being hot (car was semi hot to the touch), was a little different and proved to work out flawlessly as I went back the next day to take the after pics! I left all the residue from the previous polish or compound on the car to minimize the wiping! M105 really cut through everything rapidly once the oxidation was gone! OC brought back the shine and gloss, poliseal really improved the wetness!

Here are some befores...rust, metal flakes, and TONS of oxidation all over the car!!!

Here is what claying consisted of...you can see the small section here and how contaminated the car was:

and this shot shows what a 1'x1' section dug up from the hood! This is why claying is SO important!

Couple 50/50 shots of the trunk lid....

Great turn around. My grandpa has a 1965 Mustang in FLAWLESS condition and it reminds me very much of this car. Same color!

Nice ride and work! My dad's first car was a 1967 fastback. Bought it new in 67 for like $3000. LOL

thanks barry, its nice to work on something like this for a couple of reasons:
one its single stage and the dramatic changes are always nice to see
two, its going to make the owner clean it up and get it running again, so I helped get him the motivation he needs! Makes me feel good!

Amazing before and after pics. Just curious how old that was the paint on that car? I have a '79 T/A with 30 year old paint and when I would clay certain areas of the car it would pull the paint onto the clay just like you pictured and I'm still learning a lot about buffing before I practice on my own car and looking to bring that car back to life.
