Re: Vanity Detailing - 1984 Chevy Caprice Classic
I just got word from the owner that he's letting everyone in his car club, know about the work I did.
Looks like I'll have a bunch of "donks" in my garage over the next few weeks... I hope I have enough metal polish! It takes a LOT to clean up a set of 24's!

what a terrible paint job, that orangepeel is terrible.
Great job on bringing that "car" back to life. Can't say I'm a fan of Donks.

The camera doesn't show how bad the orangepeel really is. And the clear is so thin over the metalflake, you can FEEL the metal flakes! I found several in my wool pad.
I can't say I'm a fan of Donks either. But I don't discriminate when it comes to money.

Hi-Riser (automobile) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
$5K paint job, $8K wheels, $10K stereo, on a $600 car.
This particular car was a "donk on a budget." $750 car, $2K wheels, and $2K paint.

Re: Vanity Detailing - 1984 Chevy Caprice Classic
Add me to the list of gee, what a crappy thing to do to a nice old b-body But hey, it's not like everyone likes *my* tastes either!
VanityDetailing- Interesting step-down there, going from M82 to Swirl-X, I never woulda thought to try that.
Didn't the NXT mute the flake any? A pal of mine likes it on his showcar because he thinks it tones down the clearcoat-with-flake effect, making it look more like single stage.

Re: Vanity Detailing - 1984 Chevy Caprice Classic
If anything, it made the flake pop MORE. It did, however, show how bad the paintjob itself was.
I used the swirlX to smooth out the little bit of hologramming that occurred from the wool pad and M85. It wasn't a *critical* step, but I'm too much of a Type A personality to let the smallest imperfection go untouched.
I honestly did everything possible to fix this paint, save for wetsanding the entire car, which considering how bad the basecoat went down, it wouldn't have mattered much.
