Re: dsms detail - Subby STi Limited 238/800

Looks great Dave!!

Too bad all details weren't this straight forward, huh?

Although the paint was already in pretty good shape, the difference is very noticeable. Little things like the trim and the cowl area make the detail, IMO.

Great work!

Thanks Rick! And your dead on with the simplicity of a detail such as this one being so nice. I cant tell you how much I enjoyed working on this job. Sure the car was far from exotic but I still enjoyed it.

The last few cars I have done have been long paint corrections (black vehicles of course) and it drained me pretty well. The goal with the STi was to take a car in very very good condition and make it really glow. The paint polishing was focused heavily on "jeweling" as I stated before which IMO added the most dramatic enhancement to the finish.

Greatest part too was that the owner was a true car guy, IMO anyone who lays out a list of things he wants perfect on his car before the detail begins is aces in my book. I always enjoy working on a car whos customer appreciates every last detail.

Its funny how a $35,000 car owner doesnt bat an eye when I give them pricey yet modest estimate and a $100,000 car owner who could care less about PROPER car car will start to rationalize with me and bargain for a lower price To those who care its a worthwhile investment and for those who dont, well its not worth my time.

Did you polish the indented area in the middle of the door? How did you do that? By hand?

Awesome job. That car is very nice. Strange seeing it without the blue seats though haha.

The GI 5" BP is really awesome, as you know I am a big fan of the 3M yellow foam BP but now that I have the GI BP I dont have re-apply pads, I just keep one BP with the cutting or polishing pad on it and the other BP with the finishing pad on it and switch off as needed. The GI and 3M BP perform the exact same, but 1 is 1/2 the price of the other

The indented area on the lower part of the door panels was polished using simply the beveled edge of the pad to work the polish into the section.
