I was approached by a fellow Autopian member ALAN81 to polish his 2007 Nissan Altima and without any hesitation I agreed. After dropping it off to my house and fully prepping the paint for polishing, we discussed a course of action that was both practical and affordable. Alan suffers from a popular enthusiast disease called Wax-O-Holism and at every opportunity he allows his vehicle to devour coat after coat of the latest & greatest LSP. Half the effort of detailing this vehicle was exhausted by just removing dozens and dozens of prior layers of various LSPs so that I could reveal a bare finish. I knew the minute I splashed this vehicle down with water that I had my work cut out for me by the way the water danced off the finish from such a thick build up of LSP.
After my initial debridement with my power washer + hand washing, I presoaked the entire vehicle down with a extra strong mixture of Auto Magic Special Cleaner and then hand scrubbed via Grout Sponge to lift away all the remaining silicone oils.
Not much beading after:
Prior to buffing, I clayed the entire vehicle with AM Blue Clay Magic and then dry sanded with Micro Mesh 4000 grit which made the finish feel super smooth. As you can see, this revealed a flat, micromarred finish that was hiding behind the last few years of protection.
