chalkboard mustang detail

This is a 88 mustang owned by one of my very good Corvette customers, his daily driver. Cool car, heads, cam, supercharger. Anyway it was completely oxidized, like a black chalkboard. It was a just for fun detail, and also a thank you to a good customer. I told him he could pay me whatever he felt like, I just wanted him to be happy with it. He liked that! And he paid me well.

The detail process for this car was actually pretty simple. I wanted to see how much correction I could do with very simple tools (PC, 2 pads, 2 products) and finish in just one day. Typically I finish with Zaino, but to keep things basic I just used megs #26 to finish it up.

-first pass: Menzerna IP on a Lake Country orange pad, speed 5
-second pass: Menzerna MP on a Lake Country white pad, speed 5
-wax: Meguiar's Liquid #26
-convertible top: 303 Convertible top treatment.

Here are some more dramatic shots!

Even masked off some racing stripes for fun!

Re: chalkboard mustang detail

That's my policy on my Mustangs, too, one polishing every 20 years

Great job, I wish you had a full-car before to put next to the after to show the gray-to-black transformation. Would be like one of those weight loss commercials.

Now that you've brought it back to life, I hope he doesn't neglect it again.
Beautiful work! I couldn't see the end result in the "before" pictures; it looked beyond oxidized to clear coat failure.
