ScheerSpeed Detailed: 1985 Red Porsche Carrera

1985 Porsche Carrera

This car was picked up by the current owner two years ago. The current owner hasn't waxed since he bought the car because he was afraid of someone messing the paint up. But once he found me, he knew that i could take care of it. The car has 8x,xxx miles, and overall was in pretty decent condition for being 23 years old. it used to be garage kept, but now it is just kept outside under a car cover. Unfortunately the owner only wanted a two-step polish, so only about 90% of the defects were removed by 2-3 passes of SIP. some RIDE were still too deep to remove without compounding .This was also my 1st time polishing a 1-stage paint.

After wash and clay

i can tell that this car had been polished before because there were burnt edges all over the place...

The owner opted for a two-stage polish, which i use SIP on an orange pad and follow it up with 85RD.

Now some before and after pictures

Re: ScheerSpeed Detailed: 1985 Red Porsche Carrera

with the 1-stage paint i could only polish 1-2 panels per pad because the paint clogged up the pad so quick!!!

a few 50/50 shots!

I called it a night at 10PM after finishing with SIP. the next morning i arrived at my customer's house at 7:30AM, gave the car a wipedown with ISA alcohol, and got started polishing with 85RD.

In this picture, the front fender is polished with 85RD, and the door is polished with SIP. look at the difference in the gloss!

some shots after polishing with 85RD

Re: ScheerSpeed Detailed: 1985 Red Porsche Carrera

Now that i was done with the paint, the rims needed some serious attention. i decided to go wit hMother's billet polish for te aluminum, and SIP by hand on the black painted part.

After polishing the wheels i gave them a wipedown with ISA alcohol and applied a generous coat of CG jetSEAL 109.

after doing that, i applied Lime Prime Lite and followed that with Rubbish Boy's Original Edition Wax to the paint. While i let the wax settle, i went to work on the interior.

The interior hasn't been cleaned (only vacumed) since the owner bought the car.

i decided to use CG leather cleaner with the Swissvax leather brush to clean all of the leather upholstery.

after doing the interior, i removed the wax, wiped down with cold water, and wiped with FK425.

Finished pictures!!!

great work. single stage paint can be tough to work with when u get a lot of build up on pads
awesome work, and i have a bunch of questions about some of the products u use (ill save most of that for a later pm). how do u like the rubbish boy's OE? i know like SN you're supposed to let it set for awhile before buffing off.

beautiful work. now if only the owner would put it in a garage where it belongs.

Nice job, is that the original window sticker? Also with your pads can you just use some cleaner and reuse them or are they done forever?

It's very rewarding when you can take years off of a classic car like that. Hopefully the owner realizes the value that you just added to the car.

I did a '68 Porsche 912 this summer, and it went through a tremendous transformation as well.

Good job!

Re: ScheerSpeed Detailed: 1985 Red Porsche Carrera

for future reference, use megs 80 series lineup for single stage...83/80 work wonders...much better than menzerna on single stage from my experiences
