Red F355 Correction

I've not posted a proper detail write up for quite a while, due to some business plans keeping me busy and just stuck on local work. This job however, was as far from local as possible, at 300 miles away on the south coast.

Thanks to Tim (Lord Melch on the forums) for passing on my details to his friend, initial inspection, and for doing a few bits of film and general inspection on the day.

Thanks also to Nick, at Nicks B&B Chichester for a couple of nights stay, highly recommended for a comfortable stop away from home on the south coast - Nick's Bed and Breakfast - Chichester

Having just purchased this F355, and taking his time to search out a good one, the owner knew all that was needed to make this car right was work on the paint. It has lots of documented history, no faults or dents, and it's a real drivers car. The after market exhaust investment by the previous owner means that this car sounds like no other I've ever heard, like thunder - that's been tuned up a bit.

Tea - 2 sugars then on to work, the paintwork was dust free, so straight to visual inspection and depth checks all round before the cleanse process stages. A healthy 210 um average depth all round, and no obvious weaknesses in the finish.

Some initial inspection pics -

First off -
Interior clean.

Henry, AS G101, LTT leather clean & protect, AS Glass polish, air fresh.

Engine Clean

Door jam cleaning

Doors closed now, and on to the outside. First, a nice deep soak, rinse, soak again then wash and dry
Sonus mits and towels used.

Clayed while still wet with CYC Yellow, the light contamination proved the garaged history. Rinsed again then dried.

Masked up and ready for the serious work -

I decided to work on the exhausts first, using 00 wool, Megs all metal, SFX 2 polish to finish -

After a short testing session, Megs Cutting/polishing pad and Menzerna IP via Metabo rotary was decided on for defect correction. Refined and cleared with Megs finishing pad and Menzerna FF PO106FA worked long for a super clear finish.

Some defects and correction level -
No direct sun shots, as I didn't see it all day. Great for the polishing stages though, a gentle warm heat without the burning heat of the sun. Meaning the car could be done without the garage or marquee.

Some "action" shot by Tim -

Finished with Swissvax pre-wax cleaner oil, then 2 layers of Best Of Show.

Loads of other bits like badges and lights corrected, I get too involved to remember to document those bits usually.

And the finished car.
Shame the sun didn't come out to highlight the finish, but at least it wasn't raining.
* Lots of pics here, I always get carried away, I have trimmed the pics down from 135 though. *

Thanks for reading through.

Re: Red F355 Correction

Great work that Ferrari looks very wet. I am trying to talk my dad into getting a 355 I love the look of them.

Having detailed one before I love seeing other people work on them...Honestly the 355 ranks up there as one of my favorite Ferraris! Great detail Tony!
