1978 Mercedes Benz 450 SL Engine Detail

This 1978 Mercedes Benz 450 SL engine bay was in desperate need of some attention. The car has been garaged but driven quite infrequently over the past few years, and a rodent found a great place under the air filter cover to call home.

Re: 1978 Mercedes Benz 450 SL Engine Detail

After about 6 hours. All painted components repainted with Eastwood’s Rust Encapsulator and then the Eastwood’s Gloss Black Engine Paint. These components were first cleaned to remove as much rust as possible and any engine decals were taped off. The entire engine was steam cleaned and pressure washed. All of the aluminum components were cleaned and polished with Mother Aluminum Polish and 00 steel wool.

Engine was dressed with Stoners Trim Shine (non-aerosal).

Great work dean. The amount of time you put into the engine along on that car is probably more than a lot of detailers put in on entire cars. That engine looks practically new now. I would never have thought to use stoner trim shine as an engine dressing. What made you choose to use it over others?

Stoners Trim Shine is water based, and gives a clean "sheen" as opposed to a high gloss shine. I like to run the engine for about 15 minutes after applying, and then wipe off any excess dressing that has pooled in recessed areas.

Very nice work Dean. That engine bay needed some serious attention, and your work definitely brought it back in time a bit.

Great job with the metal polish and #00 steel wool.

Engines take a lot of patience and finger work.
