Project Brightmare - 640 rear wheel hp, made Bright again!!!

Meet Brightmare. This is "stylin99"' (Steve Shrader's) 99 Mustang GT (don't let the Cobra nose fool you). This is the car that started the Yellow Mustang Registry...car number 1 of over 7000 now. This car has been on the cover of Mustang Enthusiast Magazine, as well as Modified Mustang Magazine. It has also been on Pink's All Out. Next month, it will be in 5.0 Magazine's E85 shootout, so we had to get it looking top notch again. Plus, I would like to think the detail just lowered his quarter mile time due to the slickness of Zaino!!! It is probably one of the more unique cars I have worked on.

Steve will have to chime in on the specifics, and correct anything I say that is wrong (I am not as much of a gear head / mechanical genius as him), but his car has been modified to run off E85.

This is a 2valve 4.6 L 281cu in V8 pushing 640 rwhp!!! Here is Steve's page with mods - Steve Shrader's Project BrightMare

Steve has been putting a lot of time into the engine, and Brightmare was in need of refreshing. She had lost her depth and gloss, and was suffering from some light swirling and water spots. Thankfullly, "Sal329" was able to come over again and help me. We had about 13 hours in the car.

Steve brought it over at 9:00 this morning, and anyone in my neighborhood that was still asleep when he arrived, was awaken to the sound of raw, nasty, American corn fed horsepower!!! Heck, I was out in my driveway and could literally hear him about 3 streets away.

Interior - carpets and mats were vacuumed. Adams carpet cleaner was used on the mats. Meguiar's QID was used on all plastic surfaces. The leather seats were cleaned with Gold Class leather cleaner/conditioner. Vents were dusted with a horse hair brush. Door Jambs got Adam's APC 1:1 with water, agitated with a Swissvax brush, and rinsed with water.

Exterior - QEW wash (3 bucket method), AutoMagic Blue Clay, The hood, trunk and roof were rotaried with Purple Foam Wool and SIP. The sided were hit with either the Flex with SIP, or the PC with a 4" pad and SIP (for the smaller areas), and then we went over the whole car with Zaino PC on the PC with a Green LC pad, at speed 6. A 50/50 mix of Z2 and Z5 Pro, with a shot of Z8 and ZFX was applied - 3 coats with Z6 wipe downs in between, and a final Z8 wipedown.

The wheels and Exhaust were polished with Meguiar's NXT Metal Polish, and sealed with Zaino AIO. The tires and wells got Hyper Dressing 2:1. Duragloss 501 was used on painted areas under the trunk lid, and under the hood.

On with the pics, and more explanations...

Yeah...I am deliberately saving the full car shots until the end...It's worth waiting for

Trunk (I think this is his aftercooler???) It's his cold water box...

Engine before - not too bad...

If you were wondering if it is a fast car...

Dirty water spotting (before)

After DG 501

Me with the rotary

This is the car in the garage after polishing - no Zaino yet...

I cleaned his fuel tank...

OK, OK - the afters. The clouds had rolled in, and we thought it might rain. I was trying to get pictures quickly, so Steve could come get the car since he had his drag tires on before the rain came. Which, it never did.

Sal polished the water tank with NXT metal polish and DG501

"Brightmare" polished with DG501

To be continued...

Yet another Mustang, do you ever sleep!?! While the lighting isn't best for the afters you can still tell the work is superb. Nicely done David & Sal.

Re: Project Brightmare - 640 rear wheel hp, made Bright again!!!

Thought I'd drop in here... it was my Mustang here that got the beauty spa treatment. I'll admit I'm lazy about cleaning anything to this level, I'm usually more about the GO and not so much the SHOW, so it was real nice to see how the paint turned out afterwards. The top and trunk paint was the worst after 10 years and 100k miles. It's as smooth and spotless as can be now! Awesome work guys.

Re: Project Brightmare - 640 rear wheel hp, made Bright again!!!

The cold water box isn't the aftercooler (steve correct me if I'm wrong). But it's meth injection for the block. E-85+meth+blower=lower comp.+higher boost

Great work!

Re: Project Brightmare - 640 rear wheel hp, made Bright again!!!

Nope, actually it's a water tank, for circulating water (ice water during race events) to the intercooler under the hood. Helps cool the intake charge since physics dictate that compressing air automatically creates heat as a byproduct. Normally supercharged cars will have a small 1 gallon tank under the hood, but this 8 gallon tank helps me have cooler water, or use ice water for longer periods of time before the water gets hot.
