Oversprayed White Charger

YAY!!! More wetsanding!! This one got overspray all over it from some painters doing a building next door to where the owner works. She tried to get it out but had no luck......so she called me!

I started out washing it and then hitting it with clay and, after it taking a half an hour to do just half the hood, I decided that something more drastic was in order. My next attempt included the M32 kit I got from Auto International. Washed it per instructions, applied the neutralizer, rinsed and washed again and NOTHING! So I pulled it back and resigned myself to hours of claying. Then I saw a piece of 3000 unigrit laying on my workbench and I decided to give it a shot........yup......worked like a charm! So it was a lot quicker to wetsand the entire car than it would have been to clay it! I can't seem to get away from wetsanding lately!!

Interior was pretty dirty.....a few stains here and there.....lots of hair and dust....and a ton of dirt on the drivers floor mat. I found out, when the customer picked the car up, that she has to park in a dirt/gravel parking lot..... So that mat will be all jacked up again by Wednesday!! LOL!!!

Process:

Wheels
Presoak w/WB
Ez Detail brush
Polish w/Flitz
Top w/OS
Tires
Presoak w/DG
Scrub
Top w/Black Magic Wet Gel
Wells
DG
Adams Undercarriage Spray
Paint
Wash w/dawn
Clay
Wash w/M32 kit from AI
Clay
Give up on claying
Wetsand w/Megs Unigrit 3000
Polish w/Secret Sauce using PFW
Top w/DG PBA and #105
Follow up w/AW
Interior
Vacuum
Extract seats w/Thermax
Steam clean mats and carpets
Wiped down w/Woolite/water mix
Dash topped w/DP Interior Protectant
Glass
Exterior polished w/KAIO
Topped w/OS
Interior got IG

Looks great. Sometimes, you can dry sand with 4000, and remove overspray with no marring. I had to do that today on clearcoat overspray from a car that was parked at a body shop.

Re: Oversprayed White Charger

Never thought about dry sanding.......4000 huh? Might have to give it a shot...God knows I will probably have another car to sand here pretty quick!! Seem to be on a "run" of them lately!!

Hey, is wetsanding only good for Overspray? What about Railroad dust, is clay the only thing that will take those out?

Claying should be able to remove most rail dust, but claying won't always remove overspray that's for darn sure.

+1 - Rail dust will come out a lot easier than overspray. Plus, I would think that, rail dust would have, maybe, some metallic particles to it? Not sure you would want to try and sand that out....seems to be it would be like rubbing it back into and across the paint....making matters worse? Not sure.....but clay is perfect for rail dust.
