1967 Corvette Sting Ray 427 big block...

...with 30+ year old paint. I worked on this car over the course of a few days; the paint on it was ~30 years old (the owner thinks 34 years) and it'd been awhile since it'd seen any love. It was unfortunately a little thin in some areas (and cracked in others), but overall I'd say we got 99% correction, which was better than originally expected.

The paint was very, very hard, which is good.

No, this isn't an L88. It's the L71 with the 1282 ft³/min Holley triple two-barrel carbuetor, all numbers matching, so a decently rare car. Anyway, onward!

process was:

HTEC via pfw ~1900
M105 via pfw ~1800
SIP via LC white ~ 1800
FPII via LC white ~ 1500

Next up is the same owners ~800hp '70 Chevelle.

Not sure of the number designations but the Corvette had the following big block cars (in the States).

1965 396 425 hp
1966 427 390 hp/ 427 425 hp
1967 427 390 hp/ 427 400 hp/ 427 435 hp/L88 427 425 hp (really 560hp)
same for 68
1969 had the same, with addition of two ZL1 427's (aluminum L88's)

I'm a huge fan (HUGE) of classic Corvettes, it is my passion in cars (wierd that I have never detailed one). I would probably do a car like this for free, that is how much I love them, when Corvette's made no apologies to the rest of the world and where world class cars.

A little Beach Boys, a classic Sting Ray, and case of beer sounds like a perfect night to me.

I was so excited when I saw that you where going to post this one and have been looking for it! Thanks for sharing Kevin, I truely know how hard it is to post work when business is booming.

Todd

I edited my post, you were right of course! I had the designation of the engine incorrect, it's the L71 425hp tri-carb engine.

I'll have to let the owner know you would detail the car for free, I am sure if you're ever in Toronto he'd be happy to have you. Actually, he's a big Corvette nut too, so you guys would get along swimmingly. I got to spend a whole week at his place which was a real treat.

Thanks again.

Certainly a unique one! Great job, it looks like a new car! I may be working on a C3 within the next month or two. Not sure of the year but I believe its in the 68-76 range.

Nothing hotter than a perfectly polished mid 60s big-block Corvette!
