Black Explorer.....*ugh*

Why do Explorers alwasy look SO bad? They always seem to be the most beat up vehicle on the road when they get brought in to be detailed!!

Picked this one up Friday morning (After an especially "fun" Thrusday night) and knew I was in for some work! I had quoted the guy at a family get together and it was just getting dark when I looked at it. Luckily I ran a hand over the hood to get a feel for how rough the paint was so I had quoted him full price (i.e. no family discount).

The only point of contention on this thing was the hood. When I picked it up I looked at the hood and noticed, what appeared to be, lacquer checking. Tiny little scratches all over the hood. I asked whether it had been repainted and he told me that it had been a couple years. It might have been the start of clear coat failure but, either way, there was no way I was going to be able to fix it. So I made sure he knew that before I drove it away.

Process

Tires
Sprayed w/Megs DG
Scrubbed w/tire brush
Topped w/Opti Bond through paint sprayer
The verdict is still out on this method. Nice even coverage but it doesn't seem to be using less product. I need to look at how to set up the paint sprayer differently though. I might be putting more product through it then air.
Wells
Sprayed w/Megs DG
Scrubbed
Topped w/Adams UC
Wheels
Sprayed w/Megs WB
Scrubbed w/EZ Detail brush
Topped w/DP Spray Sealant
Paint
Pre-soak(before doing wheels) front of vehicle (bug area) w/Megs DG
Scrub w/Mother's Body Brush
Wash w/Dawn
Clay w/DP Clay - 4n1 as lube
Polish
SIP w/PFW
106ff w/orange CCS
KAIO w/white CCS - (almost 10 hours just in polishing)
Topped w/DG 601, 105 and then AW the next day
Interior
Vacuum
Carpets and mats were pretreated w/10:1 woolite and then Folex on the tough spots
Extracted w/Thermax using water only
Seats were cleaned w/Woolite mix
All leather treated w/DG Leather conditioner
All plastic interior got woolite mix

Re: Black Explorer.....*ugh*

Thanks guys!! When I dropped it off the wife instantly said, "Ok.....let's put it on Craigslist!! It will never look better than it does right now!!!"

I didn't tell them this but, if they were looking to sell it the detail would have cost them a lot less and been a hell of a lot easier on me!!! Totally different detail for someone who is selling a car.....oh well.
