Aggressive '88 Saleen Mustang

After a few years of detailing one of my client's vehicles, I finally came around to detailing his bad-a$$ '88 Mustang. The paint was repainted a while ago with black BASF Glasurite 40 line paint. This paint was incredibly soft, and the owner wanted me to use the least aggressive methods possible. So, after trying a few different things, such as poli seal by itself via both PC and rotary with ok results, I finalized SIP and a UDM with a white polishing pad. The owner tells me the clearcoat was mixed into the actual paint, and so paint transfer was normal. Thankfully, it wasn't that bad considering the fact that I wasn't using aggressive pads. The vehicle then was treated to a z6 spray down followed by z5 and then z8. Interestingly, streaks showed-up after the Zaino treatment, but they went away the next morning when I was finishing up the vehicle, which was nice. Here are some befores, and many afters. Please ENJOY:

Before

After

Re: Aggressive '88 Saleen Mustang

Thanks everyone for the comments! I forgot to mention that the vehicle was detailed on probably the hottest day of the year so far in the area. It was very humid as well. Interestingly, the Menzerna products performed beautifully...NO DUST!! Sadly, when I came back to detail the 911 Turbo with Menzerna products once again, the dusting levels returned to their insane levels.

Nice work, especially the TLC with the custom paint.

Re: Aggressive '88 Saleen Mustang

Sweet lt1 man! Funny that I detailed an lt1 '93 Vette a few weeks ago.

Incredibly, I made a mistake with my process. I actually used JUST the UDM and sip with the polishing pad that comes with it. Sorry about the mistake but I guess the heat is still getting to me! With the Porsche I used the rotary.

I'm still learning my away around polishes. I did the front end of my wife's truck yesterday (with a PC and 4" pads) and while I could live w/ the dusting the IP gave on the fenders it was intolerable on the hood. I couldn't see what I was doing and used nearly a bottle of QD clearing the dust as I went. I finally mixed the IP 50/50 w/ FPII just to get through it. I didn't get the level of correction I wanted and am now considering other options.

As stated - good job!

Re: Aggressive '88 Saleen Mustang

Citizen arcane...Thank-you for the compliment. I will answer my own problem and will suggested adding a dab of optimum polish to your dusting menzerna product. I'll be honest and say that I have never tried this, but I hear from this forum that this is one way to significantly reduce dusting without sacrificing cut.
