Oh yea, the GT is nice too! Not too may Porsche cars have gone back to Gulf Blue paint to sample.

Can't imagine what you'd do with the car on the lift.

Just be very careful on the PCCB rotors, they can be damaged if hit the wrong way and you sure do not want to spring for one of those! If you remove wheels for a wheel-off cleaning, be sure the owner has two wheel hangers to attach to the rotor hat before mounting the wheels back on. Otherwise you could very well damage the rotor.

Lots of carbon fiber on this car and it's a good thing it was in great shape. I did one that took some real work to try to get the carbon fiber back to a glossy level. Not easy and thankfully it was only in the foot wells and no where else.

Once again, GREAT JOB!!!

Deanski
Thanks man. This would be the absolute best candidate to detail on a hoist. Thanks for the tip. I made sure not to spray any cleaner on the rotors, just in case. Isn't this the perfect color for this car? It's strange how much carbon fiber mesh can be seen through/under some painted panels.

Nice job.

What did you think about the stupid clutch in the car? You could pull out your hair just trying to move the car over a speed bump... If you rev it above 1800, it cuts the power out (to save the 10k clutch), so you have ease the cluth to the point of the pressure plate, at which point the engine automatically revs and you pull away like a granny.

That and the funky placement of the shifter is kind of wierd. Luckily I was able to put a couple miles on the silver one, and once under way the car is awesome, and what an amazing sound!!!
Thanks Todd. The clutch is totally crazy. I used to have drag car 911 that had a 930 trans with a full race metallic 4 puck clutch system that I thought was super critical. This one makes it look primative.

Thanks. This paint was awsome! Not too hard, not too soft. Very workable and predictable. I wouldn't think twice about using a wool pad & compound on it if I had to.

Thanks. I was surprised too. Spending a few extra minutes taping things up made a world of difference.

Thanks Setec. The owner requested that I leave them on actually. They looked like they removed really easy too. He mentioned that each one weighs less than 1 pound!
Those are actually tiny storage compartments.

Here's one of the reasons:

It makes for a super soft feel when polishing. Especially with Ultrafina.

Thanks you. The practicallity of this car is pretty much nil. He's moving on to somthing much greater, with much more use. Keep in mind that this car isn't even past the "break in" period yet. I couldn't imagine how frustrating it would be owning such a powerful car, having your own private runway strip right in front of you & not even get the chance to run the heck out of it!

That's an awesome car.

Was that ultrafina shot of the priming panel? That's about as much as I would use on a full car.

Thought you all might find this interesting. It's a registry of all of the CGTs and colors they were produced in.

Check out the orange and signal yellow ones!

Re: 2005 Porsche Carrera GT - Paint to Sample Gulf Blue

What a treat to work on something so unique; and what a work environment!!! The only thing missing were a few Hooters Girls to bring you lemonade and wipe the sweat off your brow whilst working.

As far as selling the car, there had to be some level of frustration owning what is already a museum piece; knowing that if you drove it like you wanted to, you'd be degrading the historical value of the car. Besides, guys at his level play Monopoly with REAL money and real game pieces!!! He'll have something as equally awesome for you to detail in no time.

[PS: you've heard it before, but: top-notch write up - many thanks]

You're top tier in my book Dave. I love how your pics don't look "vivid", instead look soo natural as if I would be seeing the car in person. You're one of the most influential detailers in my book for your simplicity yet direct action towards detailing.

BTW, what pressure washer is that. How many GPM?

The "vivid"ness of the camera could be because the softer color of the paint doesn't through off the white balance as much (closer on the gray scale?).

That or I need to buy a cheaper camera....

When did making cars look vivid become a bad thing, I have seen a lot of cars at shows that look better in person than I saw on the internet.

I don't know, I take "vivid" photos, but as every client who has seen my pictures on here and seen their cars have commented (on my threads even) the pictures never do the cars justice.

I personally would love to see this Porsche in person as I am sure it looks much better in person.
