Labor of love - Revised

This one was a labor of love for me. The owner is someone I have known for a while and is a fellow softball player. She is a pitcher (like me) and at the end of last year took a line drive in the face from some douchebag using a "shaved" bat. There was extensive damage done (details are unclear) but she was in the hospital for quite some time and spent even longer at home recooperating.

While she was in the hospital getting put back together someone spray painted her truck. They wrote some pretty bad things all over the truck and, not really surprisingly, most were spelled wrong!! Just once....please let me catch someone doing this.....please? Just once!! They were able to get most of it off but there was still some left. There was still alot of green misting all over the truck. I got what I could on film but the camera wouldn't pick a lot of it up. Just enough to see with the naked eye but too faint for the camera to find in all that silver.

People had put together a benefit softball tourney to help raise money to help with the hospital bills and I wasn't able to play. I went by the hospital to see her during all of this but wasn't able to get in cuz I wasn't family. So I was feeling kinda bad that I wasn't able to show her any support so I got word to her that I would be more than willing to donate a full detail on her truck to help get her life back to normal. She got home, healed up and is back to playing. She wears a pitching mask now (as do I) and is still as cute as ever!! She's a really great person who I really enjoy being around which made the detail that much more enjoyable! She is getting the truck back tomorrow night and I am looking forward to seeing her reaction!!

So here's my process:

Spray wheels w/DP Wheel Gel
Spray tires and wells with Megs APC
Scrubbed the tires and wells
Worked with a little brush on the inner lip of the rims but couldn't get all the stuff out.
Wash w/Dawn
Attempted to clay all the paint off. After an hour I gave up and used aerosol Goof Off on the whole truck. It worked really well and didn't seem to have any ill effects on the paint that was supposed to be there!! It did, however take part of the paint from an emblem and "etched" some plastic around the passenger side mirror.
Wash again to remove the Goof Off
Clay the entire truck including glass and chrome
Polish:
OC w/orange CCS
Menz 106ff w/white CCS
KAIO w/white CCS
IPA wipedown
Topped w/ DG PBA and 105
Followed next day w/AW
Glass was polished w/KAIO and topped w/OS
Headlights were wetsanded w/3000 unigrit and polished w/Menz SIP and topped w/OS
Engine:
Sprayed w/Megs APC and run for five minutes
Scrubbed with brushes to get all the big chunks
Sprayed again w/APC and left to sit for another five minutes
Started motor and hosed down the entire engine compartment with a fine mist
of water and ran for another few minutes to help with drying.
While engine was running I blew all excess water off with leafblower
After completly dry I followed w/Megs HD and ran again for a few minutes and
then let sit until dry.
Wheels were treated w/HD and wells got Adams Undercarraige Spray
Most of the scratches were wetsanded and buffed out. The one that are still there were too deep and would have taken touch up procedures to fix.
Interior:
Wiped down with Megs QID
Carpets and mats were cleaned with APC and Folex
Really bad spots on the console were soaked with APC and then treated
w/DP Interior Protectant
EDIT - New pics of repainted badge - look below!

As I said, this was a MAJOR labor of love for me and I enjoyed every step of this detail cuz it was for someone that truly deserves it!!

So here's the pics!

Re: Labor of love

Great job. It's more fun to work for free a lot of times, when it's for a person you care for.

Re: Labor of love

Your friend should be thankful she has you for a friend. The truck looks like a million bucks.

Awesome work Mose. And thats a really nice thing you just did. I've been reading a whole bunch of headlines of things happening around the Sacramento area. Whats up with that? But again you are a good man.

Re: Labor of love

Just an awesome job. Great pics too. I love seeing the massive difference on the "clean" versus "dirty" glass pics.
