1996 Impala SS

This was supposed to be just a clean up since the car is going to be for sale.

The car's paint was trashed. The interior wasn't too bad but needed alot of work.

Turns out that instead of a few thousands, this car is worth a lot more.

Interior and exterior. Spent about 4 hours the interior between thursday evening and friday after my other details. Pressure washed the engine.

I had the car from thursday to sunday (easter)

So saturday I wash it and clay it and did the wheels.although not much came off it.

Next I looked at my selection of polishes and chose SIP. However (and) let me make this real short: Nothing worked on removing the top layer of what ever it was. Nothing.
Except OPTIMUM POLISH and only with a yellow CCS pad. The orange worked ok but had to do several passes. Now what was more interesting is that only the UDM was successful. The rotary and the flex was just sliding over it if that makes any sense. Even without any paint correction (some were achived by default though) I ended up polishing for about 13 hours. WTF?:l augh:

Process

wash
clay
op yellow ccs pad udm 6
Poli seal white pad udm 6
CG EXTREME DEPTH LIQUID CARNAUBA CREME WAX + X-Seal
Poli Seal on wheels
AA spray on tires x2

Some during 50/50 pictures

The hood and left front fender done with OP & PS

Second day of polishing and 50/50 after OP & Poli Seal

Boy did you have a busy weekend or what. Nicccee!! When you told me about this one I though that it would be an easy in and out. So much for that.

Re: 1996 Impala SS

I wanted a Black Cherry '96 Impala SS SO bad back in '96. Unfortunately, at the time I was a poor, starving engineer & it was WAY outa my price range. The dealers were selling them for sticker (or above)... no dealing to be done. Ended up buying a '96 Thunderbird sport. Still a V8, but a little sportier... & price was about $10k less. They've held their value quite well over the years tho.

Nice job on the turnaround. It's still a bada$$ car!

Re: 1996 Impala SS

Great work indeed, tdekany.

That's my dad's car there. He's owned it since new, and it followed us all the way from Texas to Maryland.

I'll have to hit you up one of these days about doing his '72 911 Targa as a birthday present oslt.

Thanks again for making the old girl shine like new again. I think the next owner will be in love.

Re: 1996 Impala SS

Looks great Thomas! Looked like there was 50 coats of something on that paint.
