A friend's Chrysler Disaster...

Hello friends of autopia. Luckily, this Chrysler Sebring was washed before I arrived. After clay barring the entire vehicle, the majority of the paint recieved Menzerna Super Intensive polish applied with a low-profile orange-cut pad and an Ultimate Detailing machine. It was followed with Optimum Poliseal via Porter Cable 7424 and a blue edge 2000 foam pad, then sealed with Duragloss aquawax. 8.5 hours later, here are some before/after pictures:

Before on door, after on the right:

Before:

After:

On this area, behind the passenger's door, an area was "wetsanded and buffed for two days by a 'trained' expert." Here are there results:

After I properly finished the area, which called for two 1700rpm rotary passes of High Temp Extreme Cut with an Edge black wool pad, followed by Menzerna Super Intensive Polish via rotary and green edge wool pad, then Ultimate Detailing machine with orange pad and Super Intensive polish, then the rotary, Menzerna 106FF, and a blue edge foam pad, and then finally a blue foam edge pad and the Porter Cable 7424 with Optimum Poliseal, here are the results:

Same area, different angles...sorry for the lack of light in the after. Please keep note of the convertible top. This was my friend's car, and I allowed him to buff the black trim with a PC. As you can see, he had a little "off" moment on the convertable portion:

After:

A random final shot:

And finally, the oxidized trunk, which was attacked with about 3 passes with the rotary at 1700 rpm with a black edge wool pad and High Temp Extreme cut, followed by the Ultimate Detailing Machine and a low-cut, orange pad and Menzerna Super Intensive polish, then Duragloss Aquawax.

After:

Before (hard to see a major difference from this distance, but take a look at how the door does not match the paint) :

Before, with light...notice the swirls:

Sorry, no light on the last shot...I forgot and I was in a rush to leave , but I can assure a huge turnaround. Also, the car was resprayed on every panel on different days except for the trunk and passenger doors (hence the oxidation and the faded colors in these areas). Enjoy!

Wow major difference! That trained pro did a spiffy job on the area behind the door. Hacks are everywhere, I guess they help keep us in business. Excellent work as always.

Re: A friend's Chrysler Disaster...

Great job, especially on the trunk for the UDM. One questionn though - Why the aquawax after all that work?

Re: A friend's Chrysler Disaster...

Thanks for the comments...Aquawax because we were dead tired (I attended a karting event the day before, making my back sore as-is, and the owner/friend was performing maintenance on my car) and because it is easy to use. I was going to put Optimum OptiSeal on top of the Poliseal, but I decided not to because I was not applying the wax...the owner was going to while I finished the trunk, and Optiseal can streak if not used properly (I was almost certain that the owner would use too much).

A funny moment occured during the day when the owner, who has some experience with buffing, lifted the PC from the paint surface while buffing with a Sonus 3 inch spot pad...I told him not to make it leave the surface because it would fly off, and soon enough, I see a small yellow disk soaring through the air..yep, it was the pad.

Re: A friend's Chrysler Disaster...

Ah, I completely missed that you used Poliseal beforehand. BTW, there is someone in the Northeast Forum looking for a NJ detailer.

Re: A friend's Chrysler Disaster...

I forgot to mention...the detail was free in exchange for maintenance to be performed on my car by a friend. The owner was very happy when I polished an area and then topped it with Poliseal, so something easy like Duragloss made for an easy choice.
