1965 Corvette, 2002 GMC 2500HD, 1985 Chevy Silverado

1965 Chevy Corvette. Mild 327, 4 speed w/Hurst shifter. Repainted less than 3 months ago, I was buffing out his '02 GMC and he wanted me to put a coat of wax on the 'Vette while I was there. It really, really needs some serious buffing to remove the swirls the paint shop put in it (real shame too because they did a really good job wetsanding it) but that will have to wait for another day. For now, he just wanted some protection on it. Hand applied Clearkote's Carnauba Moose wax.

Just a quick vacuum and wipedown...

2002 GMC 2500HD. Hunting truck so he said he wasn't expection (or paying!) for perfection but to clean it up as best I could. I went with Meguiars #83 using a Meguiars yellow polishing pad @ 1400, finishing @ 1000 rpm-only left a few very faint holograms, then followed with 3M Ultrafina SE using an Ultrafina pad @ 1800 rpm, finishing @ 1000 rpms. The first 4 shots are #83/UF only, no wax. UF is a bit oily (probably was using too much after the pad was primed) so you can see some streaks from it not being wiped off completely.

Oh yeah, it was really fun dealing with the 20-35 mph winds all afternoon while working on the truck and the '65 Vette.

I finished the truck off with a hand applied coat of CMW. I think this first flake shot is the best I've been able to get. The truck turned out really good for it being nearly 6 years old, never deep polished before and only two polishing steps.

The full vehicle shots show that this paint definitely looks its best in the sun (which was behind the house by the time I completely finished) and not the shade.

1985 Chevy Silverado. Originally a carbureted 305, he had recently done a 350 TBI swap. The truck had also been repainted and he had tried to buff it out using a single speed rotary, lots of holograming and hazing. Since I didn't know what level of quality the paint job was and most importantly how much clear was left after the owner had polished it, I decided to err on the side of caution.

The sides were first polished with Optimum Compound using a Meguiars yellow polishing pad via UDM, then with 3M Ultrafina SE using an Ultrafina pad @ 1800 rpm, finishing @ 1000 rpms. Weird, I know but it worked pretty good...except for the hood, which required switching to the rotary (same pad though) with OC @ 1400 down to 1000 rpms-twice! The pictures really don't show how bad it was.

Right side polished, left side untouched.

Not sure what the scratches were, couldn't get them out 100%. Like the GMC, some minor streaking from Ultrafina.

Thought I had a before, but this is after 1 pass with OC/Megs yellow/rotary:

2nd pass, then Ultrafina:

...more streaking...

After polishing, I used NXT2 and buffed it off with Optimum Car Wax.

Re: 1965 Corvette, 2002 GMC 2500HD, 1985 Chevy Silverado

65-66 Vette's are my all time favorite cars... I like the 66 a little better (because of the 427 vs. the 396, but the '65s are cool with the red-white-white-red tail light arrangement and the optional 327/375 hp fuel injected motor) but WOW. I have never detailed a mid-year but would probably do one for free.

Great work Scott!!!!

Great work Scott. That Vette is sweet. Hopefully you will get the chance to give it some more TLC.

The corvette looks really cool and I will never get a chance to buff such a car in Singapore . Great job on all the cars and NXT2 sure looks like a winner, hopefully it will be made avaluable here soon.

Scott, you've adapted quite well to the rotary! Nice work.
