What Are Your Thoughts On The "Extra" Services?

I am in the process of planning a future business, and in addition to making it allergy/asthma friendly detailing, I want to offer other useful services that not a lot of people do. In particular, I want to do alloy repair/refinishing, paint chip repair, interior repair (upholstery & carpet dyeing) and headlight restoration services.

My question is- are these services in demand, and can they make good revenue? Of all I listed, which may be the best value for me to offer?

My other question- does anyone know of a place in MN or WI, or even online classes to get training? I will be unable to travel very far from home.

The most bang for you buck will be Headlight repair, followed by Windshield Repair.
Paint chip repair can be quite lucrative as well, but a good kit costs a fair amount, and depending on your customer base this may not be a great investment. Wheel repair is quite involved, as is interior re-dying.

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On The "Extra" Services?

How tough is the windshield repair stuff? There are so many cars with imperfections in the glass, I can imagine there'd be a lot of call for this business. I remember my Camry had a couple of chips the shop supposedly "fixed" but I could still feel them and they looked awful. I thought with the proper technique it greatly reduces or vanishes the imperfection. Right?

The headlight repair seems pretty simple. We bought a couple of different kits at the local auto store and it worked pretty well. I'd love to see the professional kit and its results. I think my new car's headlights are a little on the frosty side so I'll give it a shot.

I also want to learn advanced buffing techniques for swirls, scratches and painting mistakes as well. i have my most fun taking a rough car to smooth as glass and so reflective you can't take a decent picture of the work. I'm pretty good at it but I think I've still got a bit of learnng to do.

Maybe I'll just stick to referrals for anything that goes past my detailing, headlight & windshield repair services. I can repair small paint chips with the aftermarket touch up kits if the owners insist.

Re: What Are Your Thoughts On The "Extra" Services?

Just my two cents and, I may be WAY off, but, I've personally not come comes across a detailer of Autopian abilities that has the time to perform wheel repair and the other services you offer. I do perform headlight restoration. But, I view this as a standard detailing service.

Whatever you do, good luck and keep us posted.

Andy

It's not very tough to restore headlights. I use 4" pads and Adam's Swirl and Haze Remover with a drill. Works great, check out this video.

I think it would be great , but expensive to get into everthing like that . A one stop shop. Bring us your junk and out comes a like new car. Dealers use dent people, touch up people and interior dying people all the time.
