Do I need PPP b4 PGP if I used Menzerna first?

So after inspiration and instructions from Spoiled Man with my audi. I took the plunge and bought pretty much everything I needed to detail my car and friends/families.

For thanksgiving I used the cyclo for the first time and first washed with ONR my in-laws black Acura MDX. Then Clayed using the elastrofoam block, then Menzerna SIP with Orange pad.

Now here's where I think I made a mistake. I wiped down with the MF towel, then put on the PGP. The car does look great, but I'm wondering if I should have used PPP first?

I also have 106FF, so should I have used that after the SIP? Can I use 106FF instead of PPP? Which pad do you use to put on the PPP or 106FF if I am prepping for PGP?

Thanks!

Just trying to decide if I should buy some PPP as well. I'm trying of course to reduce as many steps to get a car looking spectacular as possible. And btw, the black MDX as my first car turned out pretty amazing. I hope to put up some pics on sat.

I would suggest and IPA wipedown after polishing before PGP. I have PPP and it is not my favorite cleaner. It can stain trim and is slightly more difficult to remove. I did a test on my car and did the top half with PPP and PGP and bottom with ZAIO and PGP. If the lower half holds up, that will be a pretty good combo for me. Oh and use the 106ff, it's good stuff.

If worked *properly* PPP wipes away very easily.

I am not saying it is difficult, just slightly more than other AIO type cleaners I have used. The only real complaint I have is the staining of trim.

If there's *any* difficulty removing it then you either used too much or didn't work it enough. It wipes away much easier than Klasse AIO. I haven't stained any trim with it either but I'm also careful enough not to get anything abrasive (however light) on trim.

You will be fine with the menzerna products, the secret is getting the surface ready for the sealent. After using 106ff do a ipa wipedown then go and put on the pgp and wait to see the pop.

Steve, in your defense, PPP does not contain chemical cleaners, as does AIO. So, as a pure paint cleaner, AIO works better. We decided against chemical cleaners because they would degrade the ability of PPP to lay down a primer coating of sealant.

As mentioned by others, PPP is a VERY concentrated product. If you apply too much it can be difficult to buff off. When applied correctly (3-4 pea size dabs at a time) it does an amazing job and wipe-off is nearly effortless.

The benefit of PPP is that it properly polishes and primes the surface so it is ready for a perfect coating of PGP. If PPP is not used, we recommend washing the car thoroughly or using an IPA wipe-down to remove oil and silicone residues. As the temperatures is getting cooler, we are beginning to discover more issues with silicone based polish film reacting with PGP. This problem is easily taken care of with the IPA wipedown or proper prep with PPP.

Re: Do I need PPP b4 PGP if I used Menzerna first?

Thanks for the info Dave. I am not kissing butt here, but I will say out of the sample kit my two favorite products are PGP and the wash. It took one application of PGP to trade off my almost full bottle of ZCS. Very good product and does what it states. Since I recently applied it to my car, it is the winter sealant on both of my daily drivers here in NH, so we'll see how it holds up to months of road salt and sand. Ease of use on the PGP is 11 out of 10.

I'm glad I now know PPP is not a chemical cleaner as I was using it as one I think. My process was 106ff with white pad -> PPP green pad no IPA wipe down. The lower panels of my car were a bit dirty so I used the ZAIO as a cleaner experiment before PGP. Any suggestions on removing some very minor staining on trim?

Does the spray detailer have cleaner/protectant in it? I used it a few times, and the surface was very slick after a day or two.

Steve,

You should be able to remove minor, fresh staining caused by PPP with a small amount of Paint Guard Plus. The synthetic solvent in PGP should blast right through the solids PPP left behind.

Yes, Detail Spray Plus contains both a cleaner and the Polycharger clear sealant (the same chemical contained in Paint Guard Plus). Like PGP, Detail Spray Plus does not achieve full slickness for a few hours. This has been a point of disapointment by some folks who want instant slickness. We are not aware of how to offer instant slickness without using silicones.
