Is UPPP a must before UPGP?

I didn't order any UPPP because my cars are in pretty good shape with no swirls really. Can I just wash, elatrofoam, UPGP? I wasn't sure so yesterday I did my Wifes car. I washed, elastrofoamed, sonus enhance sfx2, upgp. It came out looking very good, but did I need to sonus polish step and a car with good starting paint?

Re: Is UPPP a must before UPGP?

I think DavidB already adressed this in the FAQ, but, No, you dont dont have to, however, for maximum bonding/durability/results it is recomended. I would at least clay to remove contaminants.

As with many sealants they tend to amplify the underlying surface, prep is good.

Thanks, as I stated earlier I did clay, err, used elastrofoam after the initial wash and prior to polishing with SFX2 Enhance.

Re: Is UPPP a must before UPGP?

There's definitely something different about a surface prepped with PPP - it's super squeaky clean - very different to anything else I've used for prep.

I'm sure this is useful for the LSP application - and results using PPP and PGP have been the best I've had from any product to date.

Re: Is UPPP a must before UPGP?

I guess I should state that the vehicle in question was bought new this year. On day one I washed, clayed, applied Sonus step 2 and 3, and ICE once a week. The car is garaged all the time. After washing with Dawn, and using the elastrofoam this time around the car felt super squeaky clean. I almost put UPGP on then and there, but thougt I'd polish first with Sonus SFX2 since I had it on hand. The rusults are super good, so I guess it's ok. For now I have decided to not purchase UPPP. Yesterday it rained in St. Louis, and man did I have beads galore. Today I'm doing my truck.

I dont know where you guys live but here in Norway where we having creeping cold, and i noticed that the Elastrofoam wasnt very good or flexible to use in the cold weather, HOWEVER, the same thing is said about clay as well. So the best solution for both of them is to keep them in a bucket with nice and warm water so they stay as flexible as possible.

Frank, that's a good tip. Warm water is fine, but I would not recommend hot water. It will make clay or the Elastrofoam rubber too soft.
