Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus Durability

After reading feedback on Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus not lasting on tires, I decided I'd better do my own testing again. Here's what I did:

1. Washed tires thoroughly with Dawn dishwashing detergent.
2. Dried tires and allowed them to further air dry for 45 minutes in the sun.
3. Applied 3 coats of T&TGP with 30 minutes dry time between coats.
4. Drove the car for 300 miles... Hard!
5. Washed tires with straight Dawn.
6. Dried tires and inspected.

My experience on the Pilot Sports was fantastic. The attached pictures are Before Wash, During Wash and After Wash.

I tried the same test on a passenger car tire and the results were not as good. While the tire was still very black, it lost most of the gloss.

I'm beginning to understand that the flexing in the sidewall of the tire is causing the gloss to fade. So... I am experimenting with a "Glossing Polymer" and will offer feedback when I have an update.

That is the perfect looking tire finsih...i might have to order some of that, but as you say I might only be able to use it on low profile tires to get the desired look?

Tire sidewall seems to be the issue we need to work on. I think we have the answer and I will know in several days. If so, the minor formula change will be in the new 4 ounce T&TGP packaging

Re: Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus Durability

Thanks for the post, David - I use T&TGP on my tires (many, many coats). I am actually pleased with the durability of the product itself in terms of "I know it is there, because cleaning is easier." However, what little gloss it imparts seems to fade fairly quickly.

Mind you, I do not like the shiny bling look of some tire dressings, but I agree that increasing the gloss (and durability thereof) would be a great plus. If you are able to do that, you'll have hit a home run. Thanks again.

Re: Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus Durability

Now if there's changes what would happen with the current owners of the original formula?

I guess I'll have to figure out a trade-in.
