PPP on single stage paint?

I own a 60's MG that I will be doing full paint correction on in the coming days. I am tempted to PGP it rather than wax it as usual, after great results on my daily driver, but had a question on prep.

The car will be polished by UDM with Megs 80/83 as required to remove all swirls etc, but should I use PPP afterwards as a final prep for the PGP? Reading the product description it says specially formulated for clearcoat finishes, so is there any reason not to use it on SS paint?

I was also looking for something to use as a cleaner on the chrome etc. Is PPP safe for that, applied by hand with PGP to finish?

Thanks

Re: PPP on single stage paint?

Yes, works great on older paint finishes. I did a white Nova over the weekend that was in bad shape with heavy oxidation. It turned out beautiful.

Re: PPP on single stage paint?

I had a 59' Austin Healey Sprite in high school... the paint on that car was a real bugger. I finally ended up repainting it with Dupont Centauri. I put too much catalyst in the mix. The paint was so darn hard you could hardly wet sand it.

Re: PPP on single stage paint?

funny you should say that.... we hit my father-in-laws MGA today.

2 goes at megs 83 on a yellow SFX 1 pad followed by 80 on the white SFX 2 pad only removed about 60% of the marks! The more severe ones were untouched! It was really hard work, and while the bulk of the hood came up with a deep shine, the more severe swirls and scratches stayed in...

I need to get something more aggressive to have another go. This was rock hard 2-pack paint and we didnt even get to thinking about a final wax or sealant...

Going to try my MGB tomorrow so hopefully this is cellulose and will give me a little better result with the stuff I have available, otherwise I have a busy winter ahead of me :

Re: PPP on single stage paint?

If you can get to your local Autoglym supplier (Halfords, maybe) pick up a bottle of AG Paint Renovator, then hit it with #80 again.
