What applicator for hand polish

I got the starter kit and a elastrofoam to detail my 2 fairly new cars.

The silver bmw has some very light swirl marks, that you can't see in the day, but at night under bright gas station lights they are there

So I'm wondering with the paint prep plus, the kit didn't come with an applicator. Can I just use a microfiber towel to rub it on the car? Or do I need a special applicator?

Or do I use the sponge the kit came with, although I thought that sponge is for the Paint Guard plus.

Also, if polishing by hand, do I go in circles or length of the car?

Or am I crazy and should get a ultimate detail machine?

I think I want to detail my own cars Or should I just have spoiled man come over every 6 months?

Maybe have him come over, and I just keep the car up?

Ultima Paint Prep Plus works best by machine, but will do a nice job cleaning your paint if you use it by hand. By hand or machine, use a foam pad.

When used by machine, the best pad is the Ultimate Detailing Machine DAS SwirlBuster Foam Pad.

Any foam pad? Just pick one up at the auto shop? So I apply with the foam pad rubbing it in circular motions? and wipe off with microfiber towel?

If I were to buy the UDM, what else do I buy other than the swirlbuster foam pad? Do I need the velcro backing plate?

Should I get the whole kit? Although when would I use the other pads since if I use the ultima paint guard plus that's hand applied. If I only used the ultima products would I need the bonnet or wax and finish pads, polishing pad, or scratchbuster pad?

UPPP is not picky about a hand polish foam pad. You can also use a microfiber pad if you want a little more bite.

The basic UDM kit comes with everything, including a basic foam pad. The pad that comes with it is a good polishing pad, and will work okay with UPPP. The SwirlBuster pad is more agressive at removing swirls, yet it finishes out at full gloss.

When using Ultima, you can use microfiber bonnets to remove the UPPP. You won't have much need for additional pads unless you get a scratch. In this case, a 4" spot pad is the best tool.

I used it today with a SFX 2 white polishing pad on the UDM. Spread it on speed 2 and then 3-4 passes at speed 4.5 with a little pressure on the UDM did a good job of cleaning (as evidenced by the colour of the pad afterwards) and left a crystal clear finish. I had no problems to buff off immediately with a MF towel, and achieved a good 'squeaky' finish, even though I was removing 3 layers of Zymol wax.

Just having a pause (aka UK rain break...) before the last hand applications in the tight spots and then UPGP time
