Talking Black 911 - 1st Wash After PGP

Did a decent PGP test on the weekend - 450 miles through the desert to Northern AZ, with 450 miles of dust on the car, and 450 miles of bug guts baked on at 109 degrees!

Did a basic two bucket wash with a real wool mitt - usual hose down to start, then wash panel by panel with lots of suds, then rinse, then nozzle-less water sheeting.

Dried the little remaining water with a MF towel.

No speed detailer or additional PGP - this is a one coat application to date.

Noted that the PGP beads really well as expected, the dust came off during initial rinse, and the bug guts came of very easily without leaving any residue using the mitt, and without appearing to have effected the finish.

Also noted that cleaning the car added no new swirls - which is HUGE! - so to PGP on protecting the finish.

Results from 20 mins of wash and dry:

Still loving the Ultima result!

Of course, now I'm back in CA I need to wash the car all over again!

Chris.

Thanks for the update, Chris. Love the cloud reflection in the paint. That's sweet!

No problem, glad you like the results

Gotta say that I am very impressed with the way PGP handled the baked on bugs.

They were all over the car at the front, and I couldn't get to them for 48 hrs, so they had baked on some more by then.

Came straight off with no pressure, just the usual washing motion with the mitt.

Now that's a timesaver!

Also noted that the excellent water sheeting saved me from water spots.

Even though I waited until evening, it was still mid 90's, and the water was evaporating off the car quickly.

After sheeting with the bare hose, there was almost nothing left to wipe up with the MF, so it took no time to whip around the car and avoid any spotting.

For anyone who has to work in high ambient temps - you'll know how useful that feature is

Sorry there was no video - I wasn't expecting to do a detailing session on vacation!

Thanks for confirming our own experience. Our team traveller, Sam, has logged thousands of miles in the Southeast (love Bug country), sometimes going a couple weeks without being able to wash his truck. The bugs simply hose and wash off his black truck as pretty as you please.

For a while we had half of Sam's windshield treated and half not. The number of bugs and the amount of bug guts stuck to the untreated side was significantly higher. Sam said when he's driving in the afternoon showers, the water just flies off the windshield.

Did you use the paint prep before putting the PGP on?

I have a rule - always try to match your speed to the ambient temperature...

Man it was hot this weekend in the desert!

I like that rule but since it only gets up to the lower 70's for a high--I have to break it once in a while
