Join Date: Jul 2006 Location: Apex, NC Posts: 230 | Ultima Tire and Trim Guard Plus I got my order for a bottle of Ultima Tire and Trim Guard Plus today. First thoughts when I opened the shipping box were 'Damn that's a small bottle'. I know it states that it is a 12oz bottle on the website but for some reason I felt like I was getting a bigger bottle. Then I realized that it is those tiny sprayer heads in the photographs that fool you into thinking that the bottle is bigger than it is. At $40 that little marketing trick can help you rationalize spending that much on a 12oz bottle of tire and trim dressing. I mean the foam applicator that comes with it is bigger than the actual bottle of TTGP. DavidB claims a little goes a long way. I sure hope so. Either the bottle will have to get bigger (16oz-22oz range) or the price will have to come down for me to consider purchasing this again. A 12oz bottle of the PPPP for that much is really hard to swallow now
The labels on these Utlima bottles look like the VROOM products labels.
I didn't have time to clean my tires (been using FK1 'TopKote' works great) this evening so I haven't tried it yet. Will try it this morning. This had better be amazing for me to even consider trying the other Ultima products.

I bought the TTGP mainly for tires and trim, but the TTGP states that it is great for putting on your wheels. Do I need to use the UPPP on my painted wheels prior to TTGP to get the best bond like you are supposed to do with the UPGP?

First you must ask yourself, "how do I clean my wheels?". If you use a acidic or alkaline wheel cleaner you will be wasting product. Each acid/base wash will remove any protectant.
If you use cleaning products like the ones mentioned, the run-off and over-spray will remove the dressing/sealant from the tire.
The other side of the coin is that if the application of the wheel sealant can withstand the rigorous environment that a wheel and tire exist in, it may allow for a milder or neutral washing solution to remove any grime.
Keep us up-dated product amount usage, appearance and durability.

Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus is a hyper-concentrated formula. A single 12 ounce bottle is enough product to properly treat your tires and trim for a full year. A small amount of Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus goes a long way to coat, seal, protect and beautify tires, wheels (painted, chrome, polished), bumper trim, plastic grills, fascia, valances, rocker panels and the engine compartment. Our super durable formula protects for months, but you may apply it as frequently as you like.
12 ounce bottle with micro-fine sprayer. Includes 4" by 6" by 2" dual-sided foam applicator. Patent Pending.

- Four Star White Lightening
- CMA High Intensity
- Amazing Roll-Off
These products did not remove Ultima Tire & Trim Guard Plus from the wheel, but they did dull down the tire shine a bit (even though the tires still bead water like crazy).
The only OTC wheel cleaner I tried that knocked T&TGP down was two washings with Eagle One's A2Z... nasty acid.
For the most part, once a wheel is properly cleaned then treated with T&TGP you won't need to use anything other than your reguar wash soap.

I do it because it's quick and easy.

Before I ever removed the shipping cap I noticed that there were large globs of a white substance layered on the bottom of the bottle. I have shaken the bottle for a total of 10 min but the globs have only broken into smaller pieces but are clearly not dissolving. Maybe it is the Polycharger additive dissipating out of the solution. I contacted Autopia and they are sending me another bottle so that makes me feel a little better.
But for a $40 bottle of tire & trim dressing this is very disappointing. I mean just how unstable are these products with the Polycharger already added. DavidB says he designed each product and package size so that there would be enough product to care for your car for 2 years, but if the shelf life is only a couple of weeks/months what's the point? My bottle had never even been opened. Now I am really going to have to wait to try the PPPP and PPGP to see if everyone finds that these products are stable.

We apologize for the inconvenience, this has not been a issue with this product and your replacement has already shipped out via priority. We will also have the warehouse staff check our remaining stock for quality control.

At 5:11, there is a response on the web as well as an announcement that the new product has shipped PRIORITY. And at 5:22, there is a note from the "Detailer in Chief" at Ultima apologizing for the issue and being upfront about what is happening.
Stuff happens, its how its handled that makes a difference. Heck, I don't think the guys at Lexus responded back to me this fast when I had an issue. I hate "rah rah" guys, but I am pretty impressed with the follow up.
Just my observations. | |
