Did I do something wrong?? Ultima Paint Prep Plus...What a PITA to remove

So I compounded and polished out a maroon Nissan Murano. I go to apply the Ultima PPP and I want to test the claim that it will remove swirls.

I applied via UDM at speed 6 with a orange LC CCS pad. Applied and let it sit for about 30 mins to haze on the passenger side while I dressed the tires I came back and it was glued to the paint. I couldn't wipe it off. I tried PBs SW and that wouldn't take it off.

So I took the applicator that came with it and put some on there and re-applied then it came off.

Ok it sat too long, noted.

I went to the other side, applied let haze for 3-5 mins and wiped off, well tried to. This stuff just wont budge. I then applied and didnt let it haze and wiped it off still wet, again, a total PITA to get off. The only thing that I have used that was worse in removing was Klasse SG.

What am I doing wrong?

One positive note, I was skeptical about the corrective abiliites of the product but it did take out some good size swirls, that was impressive.

What did you think of the Paint Guard Plus?

Also I haven't gotten to use the PPP yet but reading this hopefully David will help out before Sunday or I might not be using it lol.

I want to reserve my thoughts on it until I know if I did something wrong or not with it.

Im about 30 mins away from applying the PPP but I been glued to the TV with the bridge collapse just a few miles from us.

It's hard enough removing directly after application, I don't know why you'd want to wait 30 minutes

The instructions say to apply/remove one panel at a time. It also works perfect if you work it til it starts to clear out even in the sun. Also, a little goes a loooooong way.

It said to allow to haze so that I figured that I would let it haze over while I worked around the car. WRONG!!

I guess I took the let it haze too far. But I did try on the other side applying and letting it haze for 2-5 minutes and that was still very difficult to remove. Then I tried the WOWO method and that also was difficult.

I have some PO 106FF coming tomorrow that I am going to use on Friday to polish out my Maxima and then I will give the UPPP another shot, this time with a white pad and see where we are at.

If it's difficult to remove, you're using too much or not buffing long enough. Only a very fine film should remain. It should be a breze to wipe off or buff off with a bonnet.

Re: Did I do something wrong?? Ultima Paint Prep Plus...What a PITA to remove

What David said + get it off immediately with a MF towel, panel at a time - keep car in the shade at all times.

If it sticks at all - use speed detailing spray to assist in any removal - makes it easy.

But biggest tips are

Use Little
Polish till clear thin film
Panel at a time
Get it off before it dries
Use SD if any sticks

At least that's what I did after experimenting with my 1st application.

2nd was easier - and 3rd was a breeze.
