Finally - 1st home detail with Ultima!

It's been a few weeks since I got my hands on the new Ultima products, but yesterday was the first chance I've had to put them to the test.

I tried the Paint Prep Plus (polish), The Tire & Trim Guard Plus (trim sealant), and the Paint Guard Plus (paint sealant).

Test vehicle was a well cared for '99 986 - daily driver, 80,000 miles.

Previously this car had been clayed and polished with Sonus Swirlbuster, and sealed with Klasse.

Yesterday it was time to try the Ultima.

Usual wash & dry cycle, checked to see if the car needed claying - it didn't.

Used a Porter Cable with a medium (green SFX) pad to apply the Paint Prep. Went on really easily, polished out to clear with no marring. found that wiping off immediately afterwards with MF was preferred to leaving it to dry for too long.

This left the paint really 'clean', like super squeaky, never seen it so clean, clean!

Nice smell too - like cinnamon maybe.

No powder, so that was good - did a panel at a time.

Next, did the tires, alloy wheels themselves, and all black trim with the Tire & Trim Guard Plus.

Now this stuff is weird! - It's clear, feels supper slick to the touch, but dries matt, or semi gloss if you buff it out.

The stuff goes on with a sponge, is real easy to spread and does not creep like silicone. It penetrates the tires first time around - so a 2nd coat was applied after 20 mins.

You coat the clean alloy wheels with the same sealant, and buff to a shine - easy. Yes - YOU SEAL THE WHEELS WITH THE SAME PRODUCT!

No overspill, no sticky trim detailer to spray on the paint when you drive, and nothing for the brake dust to stick to!

Tires looked like new - and were dry to the touch - very very neat!

Did all the black trim this way, very happy with the initial look - hope it lives up to the longer lasting hype.

Finally the Paint Guard Plus - yet again, this is strange stuff.

It's clear and very much like water. You spray onto a MF applicator - 2-3 sprays is enough to cover a complete panel/area. You put this on super thin, I mean, really really thin, and by hand.

Just wipe on, make sure it's even all over all paintwork, and walk away.

Nothing else to do for an hour - so time for a beverage!

After 1 hour, use a soft MF to lightly buff out any streaks - not much to do.

Already the surface seems very slick.

Leave it for a few more hours, and the surface keeps getting slicker and slicker - like nothing I've used before.

This is really space age stuff - I think I'll be scrapping the wax, sealant collection after using this product - it's light years ahead.

Results:

Beats Klasse hands down for ease of use and finish and gloss. IMHO

Nice one David - 1st use it's 10/10

Wow, that is a nice shine!

I'll be washing my van today sometime to see what the beading is like on the application of Ultima that I did on the front prior to driving 1700+ miles.

Yeah, that ultima stuff is great, but is it worth over $100 for paint prep and sealant???

Based on the initial results...

YES!

You get what you pay for in this case, and it saves a whole load of time when detailing.

Re: Finally - 1st home detail with Ultima!

That looks really nice! As much as I can't afford a Porsche, I can't even afford the Ultima product line. I've always wanted but never bought Zaino because I thought they were expensive. Then I saw the Ultima prices

When I first saw the price, I was thinking "ok this is just the MSRP. What's the real price going to be?" Here I am today with the same thought in my head. I'll either have to wait until I win the weekly prize giveaway or hit the lotto before I can afford to try any of that out. At least offer it in a package deal or something. We're not all Porshe owners on here

Looks nice. I would like more pics of the wheels/tires with the Tire & Trim Guard on them.
