Ultima Sealant Application

With this product now shipping and customers now receiving their orders, I thought I'd take a little time out tto explain what may not be clear from the instructions. In particular, surface prep for the Ultima sealants is critical.

1. The surface to be treated must be clean and 100% dry. Ultima sealants do not like water.

2. Any dirt remaining on a finish to be sealed will be sealed in. This is particularly critical on upholstery (fabric, leather, vinyl, carpet), tires and trim. Make sure these finishes are clean.

3. The sealants must be used sparingly. This is most critical on paint and glass, which will streak if you use too much product.

How concentrated are the Ultima Sealants:

- 1 ounce of Ultima Paint Guard Plus is enough product to seal the average car 5-7 times.

- 1 ounce of Ultima Interior Guard Plus will seal the entire interior of an average car, including the carpet and floor mats.

- 1 ounce of Tire & Trim Guard Plus is enough product to seal 8-10 tires and wheels.

These products are very concentrated. Our goal was to give enough product in one bottle to treat two cars for a full year.

CORRECT APPLICATION OF ULTIMA PAINT GUARD PLUS

Prior to first use of Ultima Paint Guard Plus, your car should be washed, cleaned (clay or Ultima Elastrofoam), and polished. I highly recommend Ultima Paint Guard Prep, as it properly primes the paint to prevent streaking.

To apply Paint Guard Plus, use the Ultima Paint Guard Prep Applicator (4"x6"x2" blue microfiber) provided with the sealant.

First prime the applicator with two sprays of Ultima Paint Guard Plus. Begin applying by wiping the sealant on a fender. The initial two sprays should be enough product to cover the entire fender. Rub it in well. I recommend straight line wiping so you can more easily see that you have covered all areas.

As soon as it appears that the product is no longer coming off the applicator, apply one more spray (but no more!). Again, apply the sealant to a body panel, covering as much surface area as possible. On average, a single spray will cover about 5-6 square feet.

Keep walking around the car, spraying the pad with a single shot and wiping it on to the car. On average, it takes less than 10 minutes to apply, including the glass.

By the time you finish applying Paint Guard Plus, it will be dry on the areas where you started. In a few minutes the whole car will be dry, but don't touch!

Before touching or driving, please allow a full hour of dry time. Allow 24 hours before washing or using a detail spray.

If you get streaking, it simply means you're using too much product. Allow the sealant to dry over night and buff with a soft microfiber towel.

How does DEW affect the curing of Ultima? I don't have the luxury of a garage, and during the colder months, I find that dew adversely affects the curing process of many of the products I've used.

Re: Ultima Sealant Application

As long as the product has the ability to dry for 4-5 hours before the dew starts, it won't be an issue.

Re: Ultima Sealant Application

Given about an hour or so, the applicator will dry and remain soft and nice. Unless you get it dirty, you don't need to wash it after every use. I wash mine in the washer (I put it in a laundry bag) after every 4th or 5th use.

I demoed Ultima Paint Guard Plus for Richard Lin today at his Show Car Detailing shop and the applicator was dry and odor free in 15 minutes.

Re: Ultima Sealant Application

Thanks David. I've had the same experience with the applicator but just wanted to make sure.

Re: Ultima Sealant Application

Question on QD's. I didnt have enough money to get the Ultima QD. How will using another QD like Poorboys Spray and Wipe or my main true QD, Quickshine affect the look of the vehicle after you have applied the Ultima PP?
