deadlock's alternate designs for ULTIMA

well 1 hour ago I said I'd work on different ideas after washing my car... I lied. I started working on a logo idea right away.

I really want to get to washing the car so i'll throw out other ideas later. But here is the one I came up with.

Re: deadlock's alternate designs for ULTIMA

Oh just had a quick 2nd idea/mod

Kinda looks like a key, and ultima should be 'the key to detailing' **crickets chirp**

(or something like that)

Cool! I think I like the second one best.

So do you do logo design for fellow autopians?

Re: deadlock's alternate designs for ULTIMA

The "M" and the "A" doesn't go well with the rest of the font. It doesn't match up and looks like it's forced.

Also one of David's requirements was that it appeared Asian influenced. Those designs don't really feel "Asian."

I think the original logo is good but I would like to see the font a bit bolder and some of the font spacing/tracking tweaked.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: deadlock's alternate designs for ULTIMA

agreed with ^, plus the logo just feels too heavy up there..don't know if downsizing it would help

I agree- the M and A look funky- I'm not sure an asian style font is going to apeal to average Joe american

Re: deadlock's alternate designs for ULTIMA

I'm still trying to figure out what you are doing with the M and A . I keep gravitating to these 2 letters and circle and can't 'see' what's happening there. Help me out with that one...

I do think the font is more conservative than the asian font, and is more appealing to me. Whether it is to the broader audience, don't necessarily think so (asian influence is everywhere in US markets, and pretty well accepted at this point, and respected. Read: Honda, Toyota, Kia, Lexus, Acura, etc).

Back to the conservative nature of the font... since Dave's approach is to create a life-style product, something gentler, less overbearing (simple?) may be a better choice. Just my opinion.

Is there a font that might lend a German or English overtone? Maybe in appealing to the upscale market (BMW, MB, etc), something that gently gives the consumer a German feel might be good. Not talking about something as harsh as the "Wolfgang look", but maybe something more along those lines????

Re: deadlock's alternate designs for ULTIMA

Just a question, is that the exact resolution the image will be printed at?

The vehicle in the image has pixel distortion, probably due to being mis-sized.

No. Print quality is 300 dpi or better. We do our design work at 1200 dpi.

So then your reducing the dpi as opposed to enlarging the car image? I'm no graphic designer pro, but from the years of experience that I do have I'd be worrisome about that graphic.

As for the original source of the car image, did you take it off the autopia image library or as an original copy from a digital camera?
