Meguiar's #21...Polycharged!!

Well...it was the nicest day that was forecasted for a week, so I had to try out the Polycharger..

Product Charged - Meguiar's #21 Synthetic Sealant

Dosage - 3 doses of Polycharger for Sealant to 1 oz. (that might be a little strong)

Guinea Pig - 2004 Onyx Black Saturn VUE

Process..NXT wash, Mother's Clay, NXT wash, FPII, M21-PCed

Application. I used a foam applicator. The consistency was creamy out of the bottle and applied like a lotion and was kind of hard to get thin and even and had to put more pressure than I have in the past..no big deal..just strange. I let it sit for at least 20 minutes and it came off MUCH easier than the application..probably one of the easiest removals I've done...only 4Star 4-54 sealant came off easier..but not by much.

Results. Slickness inititally was about average, but after an hour..it was more slick and almost feels soft Very nice. The look..good initially...Awesome after an hour or so..It looks extremely wet and mirror like

Overall, I'm very happy..application was the only thing that wasn't among the best I've ever used..but I'm thinking I went strong on the PC..not a big deal..well worth the look IMO.

OK..a couple of initial pics for fun..remember..a reflection adds 20 pounds! LOL

I really should have used a tripod on this..this was the clearest of about 3 shots

Hood reflection for fun

3/4 shot

I'll take more pics tomorrow and update with day 2 impressions

Any change in appearance over non-PC'd Meg#21?
Added depth?
Clarity or color (hue) change?

TIA

At this point, I'd say the look reminds me of somewhere between Klasse/JW and Meg's 21

Did you do a section with plain 21 to compare water and dirt repellancy, slickness and water beading? Polycharger sounds promising-please update and monitor for several months.

I should have done a standard #21 panel. If it was a spring or summer coat, I would have been more comfortable doing it. I suppose I could still tape off half the hood or a panel, strip it and compare

First test of beading should be tomorrow..looks like some rain and possibly snow tonight

I'm finding that a few products that don't spread easily by hand go on great by machine. The thicker products seem to allow working into the surface better.

If you didn't do a plain #21 panel or section how will you determine if polycharger actually improves 21?

I have used 21 before and there were definite differences in the application, removal, and look.

I do plan to IPA and MPPC a spot or two here in the near future and apply standard 21

A few more observations...

It rained overnight after application starting about 5 hours after

The morning after there were medium (marble to dime sized) beads on the hood and roof. the sides were pretty much dry.

I noticed about 4 strange spots on the hood. They were smallish of various sizes and had the 'rainbow oil slick with a water ring look' It almost looked like the LSP (or clearcoat) flaked..but it disappeared after a QD wipe and I ran my finger over it after and couldn't feel any difference...so my guess is that it was some oils from the LSP that pooled into a water bead.

Slickness and looks are still awesome

I do have a small squirt left in the mixing bottle that I need to use in the next few days, so I may do the motorcycle, which has more than likely been ridden for the last time this year I'll remember to do a standard 21 area on that and see how it behaves over winter in the garage.

When I IPA down a spot for regular 21 on the VUE, I may also layer a second 21PC in a separate area

A little update.

I've noticed that the beads after yesterdays and overnight's rain have shrunk considerably. Very comparable to what they were with Meg's #16

I also used the remainig squirt on my motorcycle. This was after 4 days of being mixed. The mixture was definitely thicker..I would say 'toothpaste' viscous.

Application seemed to be a bit easier than before and I left it to dry for about 18 hours and it came off just as easily as it did on my car after 20 minutes. And it looks and feels great

I also applied the 21PC on some chrome and had similoar results

Fingers crossed for decent weekend weather..I'd like to try a wash
